Are you interested in reusing the old pins and putting in brass 40 bushings?

Sounds good to me. I was under the impression the pins weren't coaxed out, but cut out.

If they're reusable, even better, since a lot less thinking.

I have a bunch of brass bushings, so good with that, too.

But whatever the general consensus is, good to go.

Thanks for all this work you are doing. I am about to do this work and would love to get those things redone. I am with you. If I can help some way let me know.

Cheers

Drive the pin out the right way, don't drive the knurling through the hinge and use heat, as in acetylene torch. An arbor press would work good, also.

40 pins need to be cut down anyhow, too long and the head wouldn't fit next to the hinge. I didn't price OEM price, but the stainless ones aren't cheap. If your 55 pins are good, reuse them

Several good ways to go on this.

Delancy, where did your bag of bushings come from?

Scrapdaddy, Beno, said that he could not find where a bushing is used on a 40 door hinge. So, where can I get me some?

thanks.

A Mudder who sells to repair 40 hinges. I'm not sure they'll work with the 8mm pin, but trying to confirm.

Gladly send these, today, if they'll prove beneficial to the cause.

Be back with link.

Delancy,
Ok, I am ready to give it a shot. I will order springs today. Send me an upper and lower DS front hinge and 4 of your bronze beauties, and I will rework them. If you like them, then we can talk about money, later. I figure if the Driver door works good, then the others will be a cinch. If the bushings will not work, I will just send it back to you. We will reuse the old pin, bead blast everything, prime and epoxy paint black. Sound good?

sure, send the bushings too. I am hoping for a miracle here....The only thing that i know that cannot be touched is the extension arm that stops the door from opening too far. That part is pressed in place. It has plastic bushings in it, but this part does not support weight. It should last a long long time without attempting a rebuild.

Not that the plating would hurt anything, you could paint over it. I don't see a need for that, I'm painting mine.

Had all boxed, so added check for gear, taped, UPS'd, then realized the OE bolts were in the bag with the bushings.

If you'd be kind enough to return bolts, I'd appreciate.

Chris

Hinges in process

What do you think?

Pins reserved for future use. They are very stubborn about coming out, but I have a process and a sorta jig that is taming them.

These were bead blasted and then primed. They will be painted next week.
