Hinge rebuild service - maybe???

I am about to get after my doors on my '75. I replaced with the 40 bushings before but with the condition of my pins they have not lasted very well. I have been watching your thread and am stoked. Are you still thinking about doing this as a service?

Let me know what a set of front door hinges would take to rebuild. and some hood hinges. I don't want to wreck another set:doh:

Nice work, James.

The hinges look awesome and remarkably tight. Can't thank enough.

Going to try to swap the 76s this weekend, to report back actual installed results, which I've little doubt won't be accolades.

Thanks again,
Chris

Just got back on the grid. No problem Delancy. I hope they hold up. So far, they have not been tested, so let me know how they work.

Only update is that Delancy has his set and is sending more. Jeffinwashington has sent the drivers door set in for rebuilding. I have not assembled my hinges yet. I will post photos of Jeff's hinge progress soon.

Who all is interested in some hinge work? I suppose I am going to start rebuilding them. No one else seems to want to do them.

I'm interested.

Any idea on what you are going to ask per hinge? Full set?

jeffinwashington hinge rebuild

started work on a DS front hinger rebuild yesterday. Big difference in the before and after, rusty vs. bead blasted and primed.

I am pointing to one of the two pins that I do not remove. There is a spring washer that keeps tension on it that I have not been able to find. Also, this mechanism only serves as the stop so that the door does not open too far. It is not critical. 2 coats of 250 degree epoxy paint will go on today. Assembly probably tomorrow.

James,

The (60) bushings from SouthBoston were slated to ship direct to you today, so betting it'll be tomorrow or Monday when you receive.

I picked up the hinges off the 72 yesterday,

and will be shipping to you separate of the large load, via UPS, tomorrow.

I'll have to wait for these to return to swap for those on the 76 that will be your future cores, because Britt wanted the ones you already rebuilt to align doors with body panels (he said you did a nice job, by the way) and I can't remove anything from the 76 that I can't immediately replace, due to the title debacle.

Plus, I'm still attempting to figure out how to correct this:

"Pig Doors, Pig Doors everywhere, and all the space did shrink."

"Pig Doors, Pig Doors everywhere, but for early Pigs, not 1976"

(All in cadence with Iron Maiden's version of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner")

Will be including a Pig gift in the hinge package.

You'll need a few pieces from your old parts to complete, but these may up the ante and force your hand on the finish of some of your other Pig parts.

An expression of gratitude for your hinge rebuild efforts, plus, hopefully planting the seed of the insanity I'm afflicted with.... Hahahahaha.

I checked around the office for new boxes, just now. I didn't see anything new except for the new litter of kittens born to the community cat. She chose to have them in our bushes, so I guess that makes us special. I will be looking for the packages. Thanks.

No community kitty for me, but thanks. Haha.

By the way, what is going on with the red door? It looks like cam locks on an IKEA desk.

Good question, but I didn't realize the magnitude if the issue until it dawned on me that the other front PS door I have, that's in better condition, is incompatible.

It looks like they bolted a small heavy gauge stick of angle to the inner hinge face of the door, then attached it to the outer skin with the Ikea fasteners, with hinge bolted to the angle.

Probably explains the new hinges that were in the back seat, but unsure how to reinforce the hinge recess in the door itself, now.

Almost finished with Jeff's...have to make sure I put them together correctly! Should be done today!

BEAUTIFUL!

Man that looks terrific!! Great work. Clearly we should officially recognize you as the IPPS's HEOE (Hinge Expert of Excellence)!!! Thanks for taking this on - LOTS of needy followers out here! We can have hope for doors that will stay closed!!!!

I have been called a HOE before, but never a HEOE! Actually, it makes me smile to see those words. I see some really neat and awesome work by some of the guys in the IPPS, and I am a little jealous. So, I found something that no one else is doing or likes to do for that matter, and with the help of Delancy and others, I found the parts needed to work the majic. I have a shop with a bead blaster, and a little know how. The rest is history. Thanks for the compliments. The only issue so far is it is unknown how well they will hold up. I have to think that brass bushings would last longer than the OEM plastic bushing, though.
