I am currently doing a SOA conversion on my 1967 FJ40. I am swapping the axles with a 1985 FJ60 and using the power steering off the FJ60 chassis as well. On the FJ40 I’m going to use the stock front springs with a shackle reversal for the front, Then I’m taking the rear springs off the FJ60 for the rear springs on the FJ40. Going to be running 35” M/Ts and probably doing Bilstein 5125 shocks.

I’m assuming I need to upgrade to high steer but I’m not sure how to go about it. Is there a kit I can buy? I tried searching for high steer kit for FJ40 running FJ60 axles. Can some one point me in the right direction please? Any other advice would be appreciated as well.

Thank you

We did a 40 almost exactly how you are describing last year, minus the shackle reversal, we used an off the shelf Marlin high steer kit with pre made linkages. It all worked well. We started with an FJ80 pitman arm but switched to a Trail Gear? (Sky’s? Can’t remember) pitman arm since the 80 one hit the spring too early and prevented some up-travel.

Marlin doesn’t show the kit since their site revamp but I’m sure they still make it.

I have a set of high steer arms identical to what Matt has shown in the photos above I'd sell for cheap. As Matt said, you'll need to custom build the drag link and tie rod for your specific setup, you're not likely to find a "kit", but its easy stuff to do. I thought Matt was selling custom steering links @cruisermatt ?

If not, you can buy them built to length from Trail Gear. I think 4 plus products may also make custom steering links and they are a vendor here on Mud, you just need to reach out to him with the lengths you need.

@MiSFiTiSM I guess I lied....Trail Gear does offer a kit for an FJ60 axle. I would expect the drag link from steering box to steering arm would be slightly different lengths on an FJ40 vs. the FJ60 due to assumed differences in frame width. I think the 40 series frame is a couple inches narrow, which is why spring mounts on an FJ40 usually need to be outboarded to work with a front FJ60 axle....

The kit we used from Marlin came with the linkages already made to the right length. I think we just used their off-the-shelf FJ60 kit.

I only make a drag link to install a 60/80 box onto a stock 40 axle/tierod at this time.
