If we could get barebones LCs in USA though, i doubt the 4R would even sell! Lol

4Rs wouldn't be canablized because of price delta. The fancy bits may be what pushed the US 200 toward 100k, but even at 'poverty pack' trim it sill would be a $60k SUV just because of the base component build spec. Doubtful a large segment would spend $60k on an LC with manual seats vs a loaded 4R or Sequoia.

Not sure about you, but LC touchscreen is great! I don’t need to interact with it much. I mount my iPhone on AC vent next to it. Because LC has hard buttons for most functions, the touchscreen works good when i need something.

One could argue that 4runner and especially Tacos 3rd party support is FAR superior to LC. LC aftermarket off-road support is very limited.

Yeah, there is still a good number of buttons. But in my case my arm never leaves the armrest, shifter, and joystick are right there. I can do everything with the joystick from AC, to music controls in ultimate laziness.

There is no argument there - there are vastly more options and support for the 120/150 platforms than there are for the 200. Simply due to the fact there are far more insta-bros rocking them......due to their price point.

Imagine how i feel.

The only front bumper option I have was designed to ACCENTUATE the predator styling! And as far as suspension mods on AHC forget about it, we are literally the pioneers.

And ultimately this was a sales number thing with USA LC im sure, and why i keep giving australians my money.

My GX has the “touchpad” interface…dear goodness, it sucks! And that is an improvement over the LX joystick crap. No wonder the GX has touchscreen along with the touchpad. Sorry, there is no argument for LX joystick crap that will make me think better of it. It was a sh!tty design when it first came out; it remains such now. It literally requires you to take your eyes off the road several times just to accomplish one task! Lexus designer who thought that was a good idea should be fired.

I don't have a 200 LC but have you ever thought of a 90 series Prado? Here in Europe and also in Japan and Auss they are known to go for 500,000KM before needing a engine rebuild. Mine is a 1997 TX with the wonderful 1kz TE 3 liter turbo diesel inline 4. Its a great car with no silly touch screens to go wrong.

The GX touchpad suuuuucks, because its touch and gives no feedback. Just drove a loaner with one actually.

Beauty of the joystick is it snaps to the nearest UI element and you literally never have to look down. Move it and depress to select.

Only reason everyone hates it is because the UI wasnt changed and sinplified between it and the LC.
So some toggles are very close together causing user to skip over their intended target. The tension can be adjusted though.

If they had actually implemented a different sw package for the display interface, it would be best on market.

Im not a UI or UX designer, but ive designed massive mechanical controls for class A commercial towers with complex systems and a lot of lesser residential automation platforms (using crestron etc).

Lexus just missed it by c hair IMO but the concept is there. Shame they gave up but the backlash was huge.

Yeah but you knew this going in…..

Not sure what drugs you are on, but i will have what you’re on!! :D

They gave up because it was universally hated by owners. Worst design in the industry. This is why newest Lexus and Toyota cars have touchscreen only.

Alright, ill share a little secret ive been gatekeeping. So nobody better copy me, but here it is.

I saw a random Youtube short ages ago that really tickled my fancy. Some truck out of UAE, and the only indication of origin is the DDR performance sticker on the intake.

Ive yet to return to Dubai or try to contact that shop, but family has a home there and a boy can dream. I am wishing this is not fully custom and can be ordered, but take a look at this beast. Not all hope is lost.

Sorry for the quality, but screenshots is all I could get. The channel never responded to me commenting either.

Looks sick.

I read this whole post because I’ve talked myself out of the 200s and into the 100s for some of the reasons you listed. if I had to tow or needed the bigger engine it’s no question a 200 instead, maybe a 2nd gen Sequoia if money was tight. After owning different makes of cars/work trucks/vans yes Mr T is a different level of reliability. We have some common issues, not many random issues. Note: All my vehicles have been between 2000-2011 (well 2018 cargo Savana but I mean no electronics in that)

I currently daily a 05 4R 2uz, it’s value has been solid (I baselined it lifted it tires and haven’t done much for 4 years it’s rusty and could use lots of new rubber but it’s not worth saving). After test driving a 100 series, the LC is next level quality and they both come from Japan. A well maintained 100 is my next purchase. It’s not going to win a race but it’s going to get me there. In return I know lots of rubber/suspension/anything that wears will be replaced, and that’s just any machine.

OP, honestly you sound like a leaser type, youre worried about things that won’t leave you stranded and I don’t think you seem like the type to hop back into an older model with less goodies.

Fuel price is null, you’re buying a large SUV that can tow. To me fuel is part of the deal, when I look at SUVs I want to know I’m getting where I’m going every time.

100 is still my fav, despite 200s stoutness… and as ive repeated so many times sorely miss the rear quarter motorized windows.

I fully support your decision. That truck is timeless. And dare I say the 2UZ is better? Idk

I totally agree word for word with AnyMal on the joystick. I love it, and my arm can rest while I navigate. After installing wireless carplay beatsonic, it is even better. As crazy as it sounds, I prefer it over the touchscreen of my LX600 cause that requires me to reach unusually far to press on certain functions of the screen

Sorry, 100 was IMHO the weak point in LC history. (LC300 is still unknown.) Torsion bar IFS. No locker (except for 1st year or so). ATRAC was slow-witted. Soft styling inside and out (shares with early LC200). Gas guzzler yet relatively weak in power. Weak sound system.

Yeah.
My torsion bars were so seized Hafthor Bjornssonn himself couldn’t have cracked them.

It was smooth as f though. But in regards to your opinion of the styling give me some of your drugs!
We can have a powow.

It was weak though, specially the AHC with age usually gave out.

100 fits me well, no real off-roading, can pile up the miles, I don’t tow. I need to get through deep snow at times and muddy job sites/wash board roads. It’s simple, modern enough to take long trips and hits all my boxes of what I need to do.

For hardcore off-road guys yeah they’re going to want 80s I would think.

A man of exquisite taste i see!

Once you get used to it, only thing better was i-drive, since it was quicker and lag free.

I drove and hauled cross country NY-HOU-SF in my 470 dozens of times and loved every minute of it. All it needed was the bluetooth 30pin adapter. Only mod I ever did to it.

Longevity better maybe? Power no lol

There is a lot of thought, and potential truth, to your stance. I’ve often been in the same boat since I got into cruisers 9 years ago.

I’ve had an FJ40, FJ60, FJ62, and FZJ80. I had to replace the engine in 3 of the 4 vehicles. The 60 block cracked. The 62 threw a rod. The 80 spun a bearing.

The only vehicle that’s been trouble free of the 4 was the 40, and oddly enough it had a SBC 350 in it. Go figure.

Lol, exactly. And thats super interesting feedback.

There is a MASSIVE amount going for the platform, and I have absolutely nowhere to really go to that would suit my need for peace of mind, but sometimes it feels more like i own a ticket to a fan club rather than something that is purported to be truly bulletproof.

I want to really believe it is perfect, bur rationally thats not a real thing, but even in chris harris video he says multiple times, its not a range rover, its not a sports car, its blah blah blah and he bought it cheap all while the dog is clawing at the screen lol. And you know after this thread and thinking through it what my definitive statement is at this point?

Its just special. Thats why im still here… and maybe you are too.

Just don’t serve me unicorn piss. Plastic is plastic. Doesn’t matter what badge is on the side.
