I had him check that the OD button wasn't pressed. One day it was fine, then it wasn't. Is this a known issue with the 2000? No wheeling. He recently bought the rig from the original owner and it was very well maintained and never wheeled.

It should have CEL- read the code.
Make sure engine & transmission are reaching full operating temp. I've never noticed this, but recently someone posted; transmission will stay in low gear until op temp reached.
So coolant is topped, reservoir at proper level, cabin air blew very hot and temp gauge centered, ok good!So I need to correct the thread title. Truck is a 98. Don't know if that changes the possible Dx.
I rode with him and truck at temp at 60mph was turning near 3000 rpm. No code our data showed on the OBD2. Any other thoughts?

I believe the ECM was successfully commanded the valve to turn. I think this is a strong indicator that the TP Sensor is still good. Tech said he would still have to "test the solenoid valve". Hopefully that is the fix. Meanwhile, I google image search healthy transmission guts.Dang. Was hoping you would get some definitive answers today. I'd recommend getting the Techstream done at Toyota. Did the tranny shop tell you where the "command" is coming from? Would the solenoid replacement fix that?
