Help for a buddy. 2000 TLC won't shift to 4th gear.

Curious on your outcome as this just happened to me today. Toyota remanufactured transmission with less than 8k on it. Hate to think it's the solenoids already, since I installed the trans and not sure how that works with warranty. Keep us posted.
Sorry to hear about your trouble- hope its an easy fix. I've yet to replace the solenoids. The transmission does seem to shift into 4th more consistently now, but the RPM is still high. I will be sure to post any further troubleshooting steps whether the outcome is good, bad, or unchanged.

Cool man. Weirdly enough it's working today. Nothing worse than problems that fix themselves ;)
Gonna do a fluid flush this week and try and test the ect sensor. I too will report any changes or ah ha moments.

Sometimes transmissions get a piece of gunk stuck in the valve body or somewhere. So the transmission acts funky, until one day, magically, the piece of gunk moves on and the thing shifts right again. Had it happen to me once on an '01 Ranger that I owned.

Magic gunk removal theory. I love it! Going with that :)
