No spark/ignitor hook up?

I just installed my hei on the 2f that I put in my 71 FJ (convert from the 1F0

I have voltage at the + and - side of the coil
I have voltage with the ignition sw on to the + side (red wire from solenoid) and voltage when key is in start pos

I used a jumper lead and grounded the ignitor mount but it is bolted tight on one side into the head as well

No spark from coil wire

I have 2 wires hooked to the coil-- the ign wire and the hot wire from the solenoid

1 green connector plugged from the ignitor to the distrib

with the key on the two gree connectors i am holding have power, the one with two tangs only has power on one of the tangs.

any suggestions, is there something I am missing hooking it up?

the wire in the third pic i am pointing to /touching on the ignitor goes to the distrib connector

Is the ignitor hooked to the + side of the coil? It needs power too.

BTW, that is a Toyota ignition, not a HEI, which is GM.

Like Pin_Head said - that is a Toyota distributor. An HEI has the coil as part of the distributor. This is a photo of the HEI in my 40.

hook up

Well it came with wires from the ignitor already hooked up to the + and - posts of the coil. Is there any other wiring needed?

I am going to check the dizzy and make sure everything is okay there as i have not had the cap off.

I was looking at coolermans site where he tested a 60 ign which looked similar but he hooked up to the short green lead coming off ignitor I think mine has power there and I am wondering if I need to jump it across to the other contact

The igniter connector you are hplding in your hand in pic #3 from last one, has 2 wires , they both need power. You can splice them together , I have done that before.
Another thing , you need to make sure your igniter is grounded, you can run a wire from batt- to the coil bracket.
Another thing , test your coil for spark, and don't relay on the HT wire, I usually take it out and test for spark a the HT output of the coil.
Make sure all contacts are good and clean, no broken wires .
I would try all that first before getting inside the distributor unless doing visual inspection .

I found this information via MUD search: On the igniter, there is a dual pole connector that receives 12V power for the coil on one terminal and 12V power for the igniter on the other terminal. Ground is through the mounting feet. So yes try jumpering the power to both terminals...

Ooops slow on the draw.... Vicm beat me to it!

ok I'll give it a go

Thanks guys much appreciated

I'll try jumpering across the two terminal connector and see what that does. I was thinking along those lines but didnt want to shoot power into anything electronic w/o a good schematic.

I grounded the bracket with my jumper lead plus it's bolted in and all the wires are brand new so I think they are good

if both of those wires need power then that should do the trick

BTW, you don't need the red wire from the starter solenoid to the coil. It won't hurt, but it is only needed for coils that have a ballast resistor.

starter wire

JUst got back from my trip and am back to work on the 40.

IIRC I put the wire there for power with the key held to start cause I had a points system and I thought that I would not get voltage with the key in start w/o running the wire from the solenoid

because of the ignition switch wiring, I am not sure though I'll have to go back and look at the schematic or just put a test light on it and turn to start

jumpered and now I have spark!

well I made the jumper across the 2 terminals and got a nice big fat spark. Wouldn't have needed to even look at it you could hear it. So that is the ignition sorted out!

Appreciate the help:cheers:
