My wife and I will be travelling back East the first week in August, stopping for the evening in Albuquerque. Haven't picked a hotel yet [open to suggestions] and thought it might be nice to meet some local cruiserheads [I stole this idea from Luke Zero, who's putting something together for us when we reach Indiana]

Yeah, I know it's kind of short notice. Like I said, we haven't picked a hotel yet either! Now I've got yet another forum to check back in on!

If I am not out of town you can stay at my house. I have plenty of room. I will know by tomorrow my schedule for the 1st week of August.

Mark--are we going to sing and drink again? If so, I'm in.

Wait: you sing?!?!

I should still be in the afternoon/night of the 3rd.

Are you driving the 45 Mark, or something more pedestrian?

Dan

Holy smokes, I'm off that day as well.

What sorta hotel you lookin for? Swanky upscale, or just somewhere to rest your noggin?

You'd be surprised of my drunk abilities....

As in...desperate enough to suck spilt booze out of the tailgate carpet of your 80!;p

So, I'm 'on the fence' about dragging the guitar on this 5000 mile adventure. Anyone got a worthy one for me to play so I can leave mine at home?

As for the hotel, nothing swank, but the missus says a continental breakfast is a plus. We stayed at one by the Owl Cafe when we passed thru a few weeks ago [WT Family Reunion] that was OK. Might just do that again.

hey, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do....

Don't worry about the guitar--let's at least get some grub, drink and cruiser talk Mark...

Safe travels.

If you stay there again, you got tasty eats for breakfast, and Dan & I can edjamacate ya on the drinking spots up on our side of the mountain. I'm thinking Lazy Lizard... might be able to drag along one or 2 of my music making neighbors & their instruments.

Course, if those Rio Rancho types wanna play, guess we'll have to stay in town. But maybe we can get Shawn to bring some home-brew & harmonicas....

Eat/Drink: Celtic Open Mic Night at ONIELLS. Then there is always the great Fish and Chips (best I have ever tasted) at Two Fools Tavern; also has a great beer selection.

Places to stay: Casa de Suenos is close to I-40 and the above restaurants. Call them to make reservations. Usually you can get a better rate talking to them. Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town is another older stomping ground and a little different to stay at. On the mainstream side, do not stay on Central Ave unless you want some local flare. Any of the Mariotts, La Quinta, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, etc the I-40 corridor between Carlisle and Eubank should also work nicely. As I travel a lot for work, I always prefer a Best Western or Extended Stay America.

There is another Bed and Breakfast that I pass on my way to work on Rio Grande Blvd called Sarabande. It is very close to a nice little resturuant called the Flying Star.

Hope this helps.

... local flare.

Nice way to describe the ladies on Central.

To Andrew's list I'll add the Rio Grande Inn (Best Western) right off I-40 and Rio Grande Blvd, across the street from the Hotel ABQ. Probably more reasonable than Hotel ABQ.

The Best Western is adjacent to my office. The few times I tested the restaurant, the food was marginal so I did not add to the list. Then again, there is Duran's Pharmacy (good place to eat) down the road!! It is all about the food.

i'm in for meeting up and playing music. i do have a guitar and harmonicas. I work the 1st, but am off the 2nd and 3rd.
what day are you coming through? we can get together at my house for a BBQ, beer and singing! i do have some homebrew, not a ton, but with some store bought beer to supplement, we can have some fun. several of the cruiserheads are in the area of my place.
you can stay at my place, but i don't have a separate room(i filled up the office with my music stuff). so, that will be up to your wife:D. we have a futon and an air mattress you are welcome to.

We'll be in around 5pm Monday the 3rd. Hotel is booked. Now we just have to decide if we're gonna meet at a restaurant or someone's house. We're game, either way. Only menu restriction-no fish!

My vote for eating a drinking, in order of preference:

  1. Shawn's (BionicCruiser) place
  2. O'neils pup (menu)
  3. Two Fools Tavern (menu)
  4. Quarters BBQ

I'm good with the no fish rule. Besides: New Mexico isn't exactly a hotbed of seafood activity. Unless you consider Captain Dees seafood.

Mark: if you have a location for the hotel we'll have a better idea what's a reasonable eatery. I always prefer the chile verde, but my vote probably shouldn't count--I get to eat a lot of it. ;)

Dan

for chatting/mingling, a house is better than a restaurant. i offered my place, but if someone closer to I40 wants to hold it that's fine (i live a little ways off I40... in Rio Rancho). so, i vote for a BBQ at a house. make it a potluck and bring a dish to pass, just like our meetings. it would be cheaper than eating out anyway.
