I see your external regulator pictured in the bottom right. Coolerman stressed to me once to make sure the two White/Black Stripe wires have a clean ground to the regulator. That's the entire harnesses main ground. I can't recall if the regulator itself needs a ground to the body. @Coolerman

Slow week for 40 work, but did get a new gas cap.

OK - after dinner this evening, I headed to the garage. Goal: install the free wheel hubs.

I started on the passenger side.

Torqued hub nut, spun wheel hub, re-torqued hub nut, spun again, backed off, and retorqued. Checked preload. All good.

Installed lock washer and lock nut. Installed ring gasket, installed hub body . . . . .

Went to install snap ring, and it won't go on. The outer axle will not come out far enough to allow the snap ring to engage the groove.

I threaded a bolt into the end of the axle and pried the axle out as far as it would go. No go.

Wondering if maybe I have a bearing race that is not fully seated, or something similar?

It's real close, but won't go.

***

I'm going to retire for the night, and work the driver side tomorrow. Maybe I'll figure out my error.

If you have a suggestion, I'd be glad to hear it.

Thanks.

In the above post, the top two pics are of a 60-series hub body installed to my axle. The hub fits, and I can install the snap ring.

The bottom photo is the black body hub I bought from @cruiseroutfit Cruiser Outfitters. It must be a bit longer because I can’t get the snap ring to fit.

What do you think?

There are more than one different type of front bumper gusset? Who knew?

Fueled it. Pushed it outside. It started pretty quickly. Drove it around some. Leaks coolant.

What did you figure out about the hubs?

I am conferring with Kurt about them, but at present it looks like the front-to-back dimension is too long to allow them to fit. I have two 60-series Aisin hubs (gold dial) on there now, and am running with them for the moment.

This truck is a scrappy rascal; that's why I call her Hard Ways!

Thanks @69LC - I'm not worried at all about it.

I'd like to have a chance to visit them at their shop - never been there.

The LC Museum is cool! That’s where I bought my 40.

I’m leaking coolant where that hose fitting threads into the top of the block.

The above photo (man it's gigantic) is one I borrowed from Cruiser Corps website. I have a fitting similar to that in the top of the block. It's seeping coolant. I think it's a British pipe thread or something. I had heard that an American size would work, but maybe not. I'll have to dig into this a bit more, I guess.

British pipe runs a tad smaller, at least 1/8 inch does. A 1/8 British pipe male will thread into a 1/8 NPT female but not the other way around. I have opened up female British pipe threads, using an NPT tap, with success.

Advanced Fluid Solutions has a great selection of BPT fittings:
