Took a weekend off from the FJ40 to build a doghouse! LOL!

I need to get my front end buttoned up. The bumper needs paint and then reinstalled. Got some bumper bolts but then realized I also needed bolts for the tow hooks. Ordered those. Hoping to work on all that soon.

I also need a new glove box door cable. I think it's part number 55508-30020. Should have ordered that same time. My brain is like a sieve.

I have new taillights. Problem is, not enough of these small nuts that hold the lights to the brackets. Anyone have an idea where I can get em? I would have thought they’d have come with the lights but they didn’t.

I set my FJ40 project aside thru the holidays and now it’s time to get back to it. I cleaned out all the threaded inserts that anchor the rear seats and got them installed. One of the inserts defeated me so I had to drill it out. Oh well.

I also bought an el cheapo pressure washer so I can clean up the engine, tranny & transfer case. Waiting for warmer weather for that operation. I want to do this before I reinstall the tranny hump cover.

I have a bit more wiring to do. So far, I have not been completely happy with my wiring efforts.

What is it about the wiring you are unhappy about?

I bought what I thought was appropriate automotive wire, but it looks too thin. The crimp splices I used just don't inspire confidence. After crimping, I tugged on them gently, but I still worry about them coming undone. I used heat shrink on them to protect them. I hope they'll be okay. I also have some of them low temperature solder/shrink splices. I have not tried them yet, but that's next.

I may just abandon this "quicky-splice" approach and go to old fashioned soldering.

Still wondering about these nuts. They take an 8mm wrench. They might be M5x0.8.

Yes. The correct JIS size. Is it M5x0.8?

5mm x 0.8 sounds right. A good Ace or True Value should have them. If you live in the sticks, shoot me a PM and I’ll drop a few in the mail monday.

On the wiring. With small gauge wire, I always strip enough to bend the wire back and double it up.

A while ago, I was warned about the potential for changes in the Toyota parts system. Specifically, that we’re likely to see more and more of the parts for our beloved 40’s becoming NLA.

Full confession; I do not particularly need OEM steelie rims and a new front bumper but I’ve got em now and I’m hoarding em.

I’ve really lost control . . . . .

Can you post a couple pictures of the top and bottom of the front bumper. Curious if they added more holes then most of my used bumpers I have. Had a few with more holes. Wondering if there were other options on the later ones which is why the extra holes or if someone added them.

22 holes along the top
2 holes in front
10 holes along bottom

Yeesh! It’s Swiss cheese!

The small round holes on the top are for various license plate mounting options.
