Made a decision to run these Vintiques 12 series steelies on the MP. Good prices from Summit, and lightning fast shipping. I want a stock look, and these are half the cost of Toyota stockers.
The MP is my experiment truck. Gonna try some new and different stuff.
You guys need to give me some tire suggestions.

The offset on those wheels looks horrible. Have you tried a test fit for tie rod clearance?

I had the same thought when they showed up, but the product reviews indicate it will fit the FJ40.
Here is the rim:

3.625" backspacing, a bit more than the stock FJ40 rims.

I took one of the rims over to my buddy Brian's place. He has a sweet '79 FJ40 that is pretty stock up front. We bolted one of these rims to his truck. Fits fine; clears the tie rod ends no problem.

I assume I can vise grip the body of these old ones to loosen them. Then pull and replace them all. The threads are a mess.

Removed those studs. I had to grind a flat spot each side of each one and wrench em off. I'm gonna order new ones. The nuts I had were pretty corroded so just gonna get new parts: studs, cones, washers & nuts.

Here's where I need some advice. The plan is to re-assemble this disc axle, which is from a 1978 FJ55, & stuff it under the MP40.
The '78 axle has a steel U-shaped cap on each side, aligned with the leaf springs. The original axle under the MP40 does not have them. The effect of these cap doohickeys appears to be that it will limit upward movement of the suspension.
