shortened my spare e brake cable for the ol 55 series tcase brake by twisting the crimp end off of the drum end, cut the sheath to length, strip the out sheath jacket and re thread crimp end onto cable housing coils. as gunna make a splice bracket, but found suitable spots under the rig to do what the bracket would have.....I compromised. Had to cut the end off of the 55 cable and used u-clamp splice for now. I had one tiller splice which I used to take up the slack on the passenger side fzj80 brake cable(due to shortened housing)I will get 2 or 3 more tillers to replace the u clamps with, and then cover the whole cable splice joint in a rubber bellows thingy similar to a shock absorber booty that I still need to look for...the point is, I have an e brake.....

Had some trouble on my way out to the old mine retreat on the Merced River...popping and missing on uphills and under heavy throttle. Did a valve lash and timing check and fiddled with the carb last Saturday and Sunday. could not get rid of the miss.. pulled the plugs and founds some dirty ones...ran a comp test, 139-145 psi in 13456, but only 75ish in 2. retested and retested with the same reults. added a tblsp of oil into #2s hole and got 165-170 psi. came to terms with it and by tuesday had the spare block at the machine and signed myself up for a rebuild.....it's going to run close to 2K by the time it is done- not counting any clutch/gearbox work which may also happen while things are down. gunna have 020 over pistons, polished but not undersized crank, delta 262* cam and ground lifters, chevy 150/185 SS valves springs keepers locks and seals, and prolly have the chambers polished to loose any sharp/ high spots and un-shroud the valves mostly to loose some of the added compression of the oversize bores. no deck work, I want to keep it a pump gasser-hopefully down to 89oct. was able to trade some of the machine work out, thank goodness. I worked there all day Thursday and the guy seemed surprised that I was actually there and humping in a timely fashion- I guess alot of guys feel like trade work is different than pay work:rolleyes:. I think it went a long way in the machinist equity department. the block work was done yesterday, but I couldn't get to it in time. I still have to get the cam to delta tho, so it won't be back till prolly friday next. I also need to get a gasket set and the Toyota head gasket. hopefully, I can have the block mostly assembled waiting for the cam, with all the tins and brax painted prepped and ready to go on, cleaned hardware and gaskets on hand. Thinking about trying to limp her down to Bakersfield next Saturday with the 5 1/2 cylinders she's firing on now as a last hurrah for the mill and also to just be able to show up with the rig at the rally, then start the engine swap on Sunday

No mess'n around with you. That was fast. I know that's alot of money, but you're going to have a nice fresh motor, that will last longer than you want.

How many miles on that clutch?

prolly less than 50k. It is ALOT of money I didn't want to spend on this. Fortunately I have it right now as I can't afford to be chasing my tail with the work truck. Mom has been great about Dad stealing her rig all week, and I suppose that's the only reason she's semi OK with the expense:hillbilly: but it's difficult to carry all my gear and provide the same service I can with an actual TRUCK. It was quite depressing, but I haven't got time for that, and the realization that there is going to be a fresh compressor under the hood is slowly taking over:bounce:

I have a clutch kit that was meant for the 60-2, but I plan on using it in the PIG. got the spare bellhousing out to prep for ultra flat olive, I have an H42 and 34mm splitcase from an early 60, and the rebuild kit for the 4 speed(also meant for the 60-2:rolleyes:) but will need a kit for the splitcase. With the Ebrake at the rear axle now, I was planning on swapping to the splitcase, but had hoped to use the longer H42 and a 38mm case in order to keep all the rigs the same. I'll end up using the short trans and skinny idler case for now. One day, those will swap into the 73/77 wagon- OR NOT??? the goal at this point will be to stay out of those areas for another 150+k miles. I had hoped to put it off for another 6 months or so:meh: I just know that as soon as I get the PIG wrapped, the 60-2s gunna start bitchin:doh: might think about just dropping the burnt 2F short block at the machine and have it done right away, just to keep that old 3FE happy for a while longer. then when it goes, I'll only have to have the valve job done, and then I'll have a stroked FJ62. It'll be nice to look back on these things:bang:;)

been working like a dawg....motor is still @ machinists, but he ought to have the head done by tomorrow with 1.60/1.84 valves, new hardened seats new regular steel valves and springs and seals. the cam also should be home tomorrow, thinking about letting the machinist do the assembly, although I wouldn't mind keeping a credit with him toward the 2FE block, but there may still be plenty of credit; even after the 1500 dollar block and 700 dollar head(not counting the 150 for the spare head, and the fact that I will be using a new clutch kit@ 217 and a new to me fj60 trans and transfer for another 550)...anyway, hope to get it done by this time next week...also got a long bed mini truck box comin sometime this week:bounce::bounce::bounce:( it is FREE, and will be cut to pieces, reorganized and put back together bigger better stronger)...pics to follow

machine shop still has the motor, they say wednesday now:rolleyes: best laid plans and all....got the only concrete patch on the lot unearthed and cleared so I won't have to do this dance on the gravel this time. looks like theres just enough room for the cherry picker....

its here......not the motor, but.....it doesn't look like how he remembered it looking on the phone, but free looks great to me. the thing has got to be at least 200 pounds lighter.....you know me, had it home for a half hour before I started drilling spot welds and yanking things off...

the skirt comes off, some step hoops go under on the fore side of the wheel well. the gas door is on the wrong side, and before the axle, so the bed will be flipped to put the gas door at the right spot and move the damage to the front, so most of it gets cut off. overall, 11 inches will come out of it, maybe 13; yep 13, for a new OAL of 76". it is too narrow and the wheel well gap cannot grow, so I have drilled the spot weld for the sidewall to floorpan, will add a piece of 1 1/2 X 3 to each side with 1" overlap under the bed lip to bump each side out 2", then the tailgate can get re-worked....

It's on its side? Wait, its not in your pig? I don't know, it needs 2 more cylinders?

I saw it right away, was like Cmon, guy....I guess it's a 2effer thang. I told him to leave it and I'd fix it. I gotta redo the valve lash too, as it's set for stock and not the 014/014 that the new delta wants. Not sure if I'm going to know what to do without an oily mess.....game is still on...

step 2 done
