I wish that were the new one, that was step 2, remove old motor. step one was sink into deep depression and spend a week of expert level labor and another 1200 in cash to gain new hope
step 3 will be prep all things in between, step 4 is stab
gunna need to make a last hurrah order tomorrow from specter to get some fuel pump gaskets and a new cam plug so I can install it with hardening sealer before the bell housing goes on(something overlokked at the MS
) also got to put the rear hook on the REAR head bolts
hopefully the head makes up for it- I know the lack of an oil leak will be a welcome trade. I was feeling cocky enough at that point in the lift to get the boss to take a couple shot, and even got video of the rest of the pull including up and over the bumper...I may wait for some help to stab the new one, as it will hurt alot more than the old one if it falls, but if I end up doing myself it wont be the first time- I'm crafty that way. and this time, I'M ON CONCRETE
which is a new world of easier to me. the trickiest part was the trans and t case, as I don't have the atv lift here right now. On that part, I am going to want help with re-installation... I don't have to prove anything to myself anymore

if you look close, you'll see the rear engine lifting hook just below the valve cover FRONT end with that pic of the sleeping block on the trailer....between that and the cam plug, I'm glad I laid out and marked the timing plate and cover bolts for him. he knows what he's doing with the motor per say, but I think this is his first F series. he's done plenty of chevy/ford 6ers, he just doesn't speak old Japanese. good thing I had him do the valve train in american

along with the desmog air injection plugs

rebuilt the splitcase cleaned an painted transmission, swapped top plate for the clean one Bogus sent me, swapped input shaft seal and cover gasket, painted bellhousing, changed fubarred cam plug from machinist to proper cam plug from specter*****. tomorrow will be pilot bearing and bellhousing/flywheel/clutch install. friday will be side cover swap, oil filter stand fuel pump accessory brax and motor mount brax. Saturday will be manifold, dizzy, valve lash, stab and fire.

mounted the oil cooler/filter stand side cover and fuel pump. got the old pilot bearing out and am about to go do the arse end component install. anyone know a good way to clean the oil cooler heat exchanger? I got the stand all disassembled, cleaned and reassembled, just need to mount the cooler to it. it looks like the oil hits the filter first then the cooler then the mains, and I don't want to blow any junk from the last 30 years caught in it into the oil galley...
Radiator shop will boil them out.

it's gunna be 101 tomorrow and hotter the next day
altho, Yosemite Valley is still good to visit for the next week or so. I have the donor tailgate setting near my Pigup, I will try to get into it this w/e, you just let me know what else I owe youRon, I can't give any more money away on this, the dawgs are already growing weary of my impending long over due stay

Maybe rig up a tub of Indust. Simple Green and water. Heat it up ( outdoors ). Should work good at getting it degunked. We used it at work, in the parts cleaner, safe too.

had to yank the bell housing to relieve it where the machinists rear oil galley plug didn't flush out(when will it end???
) really startin to feel like a card game now. while I had the BH off, I drilled it and tapped it for the larger hardware and third bolt on each side(think it's an 81 BH- half way between an early with mounts, and a late without) anyway, got that squared away and reinstalled, swapped the rear horn of the exhaust manifold with the EGR down pipe flange with a 77 federal manifold rear horn without egr down pipe flange onto the manifold body- it's kinda like a non USA manifold now- and installed the manifolds and carb. Stabbed motor into bay and installed all four motor mounts, pulled cherry picker apart and pushed it out of the way. time to do the FW/ clutch/ fork and then stab the gearboxen. rear DS will prolly take some injineering, as will the exhaust, PCV/EGR inlet @ manifold. gunna go desmogged for now with HAC. hopefully, it can drive itself in FWD up the driveway tonite. playin hooky right now, and gunna call of the evening job too. I have GOT to finish this thing and get my toolbox back on the road.
