To me, the 38’s look the biggest and beefiest. If I remember correctly you replaced the Patagonia’s due to tread block ripping and chunking. Do you suspect they produced a bad batch of Patagonia’s? I ask this because these tires are rather popular and I’ve never seen chunking or owners complain about them.

How so ? they look about the same to me. really hard to tell the difference between a 38 & 39

For reference @mustcamp sold the Patagonia's in favor of the Mud Hogs because the Mud Hogs were constantly hooking up better then Patagonia's on the same obstacle's
IMO the mud Hogs are a all around better tire !

I would agree on which tire is all around better. I think those 38’s are 13.5 wide. That and the black beadlocks may be why they appear beefier to me.

The 38s are 13.5" C-6 ply rated tire & had a rounded design to them.
The 39s are 12.5" E- 10 ply rated on a skinnier wheel.
@mustcamp put them on a much lighter 4Runner.
@mustcamp would know more about the on trail performance comparison of each tire better than me, what say you.
Please tell us if you continued to have chucking after I sold them to you.

I went off on a tangent...

Haha, saw your pic...Jonesing for 40s Eh? Lets see.
40s are heavy & wider, I dont know how much more a stock 80 series front dif can handle.
Broski is right in saying a 37" tire is the sweat spot on an 80, its now proven you can run a 37 tire now without trimming via moving axle forward 1" without loosing much uptravel.
What about a stock 80 on portals & 39s...

haha havin fun with the Lx & im out.

Its on 40s already. Baja Boss MT on a set of creeper locks. Those Treps are 42s, for my 40(ish) project I just started a few months ago. For what I have in it already, I woulda been better off buying @Broski buggy when he listed it!!!! lol

Ive seen that video before and did consider portals until I saw the price tag!!! lol Was a little (WAY) outta my budget when I did the LX......

It's only money, it's meant to be spent...right? Eh?:steer::smokin::rimshot:

I had forgot that I just recently I trouble shooted that my brake booster was slowly failing by pulling the vacuum line back in August.
It eventually went to a double footed operation; I was still able to lock the tires up though.
These things are very pricey...$650 to $450 for an OE unit & $350 for a used one. Here is the good part of the story, @baldilocks was pulling his out to install his hydro boost system. He sold & shipped to me for a wonderful price.
Thanks Steve. I got the booster on the day before our road trip. It works better than ever.

I also wanted to share I got a new Coozy for the shifter.
Yes my second battery is 10.6 amps, its a new issue, today is 9. My Blue Sea battery isolator might not be letting my 2nd battery charge.

I did loose a complete lug down in JV.

I do think the Mud Hogs provide more traction in the conditions I have been in. Sandhollow, Dusy Ershim, and JV. The rear axle wrap at SH this year was so bad I finally built an anti wrap bar for the rear axle. Granted we did run the hardest trails yet on that trip.

The real place the Pats don’t work are when they are wet. I was convinced I wanted a different tire after trying Soup Bowl on the Rubicon… it was wet. Finally was able to drive my first choice line right up after the tires got dry. Then before that was Fordyce after crossing at committee I struggled big time on the slabs only making it after much tire spinning and grabbing more gear than I usually drive with. Need to get the hogs on the same obstacles, but I have no doubt at this point they will out perform the Gen 1 Patagonia MT. The second gen’s are supposed to be better.

Its been a minute...more like 6 months since last post & 2,000 miles.
April 12th I went with a friend to a local peak called Condon Peak. It is your basic fire line road up to 4967ft. It was a good day to tailgate & talk with a friend for a few hours.
Here are a few pics.

About time 😎

The day before Mothersday we took a 1 hour Saturday dirt road drive over the ridge to a place called Parkfield. It has a ranch house type restraunt that serves thier V6 Ranch beef. Great Steaks there, I've never had a bad meal there.
Anyways, my family had a good time. Here are a few picks.
Oh by the way, this place sit near the San Andreas Fault Line.

Nice photo Gary…. How’s the LX getting on?

My rig gets driven cold & turned off 7 miles down the road practically every day for the last 11 years without complaints...
Its a diehard...
I see your build is doing well.

Fun Fun Fun till your Daddy takes you Toyota away...who's your Daddy?

The steel beadlocks are 46lbs.
These spec at 33lbs...haven't weight them yet. Will do.
Plus I hate spacers & 39s on a 7.5" wheel has to much side wall play while on windy roads.

I would think you would move away from bead locks. 🤷‍♂️

Glad to see you active on the board again 😎
