Looking for some help here with Carplay. I connected my phone via bluetooth to the grom. shows its connected. When I go into the setting to turn on wireless carplay, it doesnt give me that option. Can someone give me a little help?

I am an android user so I can't help but did you reach out to GROM? They have a CHAT and they are usually good at replying.

Can’t help you with your Vline, but damn is it hot where you live already!

On that screen, scroll down and you should be able to see your phone and click on it to pair. It should then connect to airplay. I believe if you also click, automically start, at the top of the screen after pairing, it will automatically connect going forward.

I’ve read every post from page 12 to page 25. Does no one have an installation tutorial or walk-through video or PDF that involves removing the dash and getting everything plugged in?

I've got a 2005 TLC, and I would like to do it myself, but I don’t want to screw anything up. I’ve never taken dash or trim off before.

Thanks!

I installed on an '11 GX - wasn't terrible, and found specific vehicle instructions around the interwebs... (not necessarily "how-to" for GROM, but in general... YouTube offers a decent wealth, too...)

So anybody been having *good* luck with the Vline these days? My wife would like something more updated in our 2006 LX470 and I'm thinking of something like this.

I'm also looking at the alibaba 10.2" screen if anybody has tried both and has a comparison (not interested in the giant tesla screens though).

I've been using a Vline2 for just over two years now. The first year was nothing but frustration with the native user interface - just a horrible piece of software, almost rendering the thing useless.

However, since the update for Android Auto compatibility, I've been very pleased with it. Aside from some issues with the back up camera and an occasional need to cycle power (every 3 or 4 months), it's been pretty great.

I was an early adopter. V1 was buggy. My V2 has been solid as a rock. I know newer GX owners have gone to the even pricier Tesla-style setups, but I'm happy with my tiny old OEM touchscreen and the wireless CarPlay in the V2. (Actually it's spoiled me. I didn't realize how hard wireless CarPlay is to get in aftermarket double-din stereos without paying $500 or more.)

Just got my unit and will be installing in the next few days. Did anyone here install the VL2 box in a location other than the glove box? I would prefer to keep that area clear, so I wanted to see if anyone has explored any other options for it. Is there enough room behind the glove box or on the back? If not, maybe behind the factory head unit?

Also, I saw that you can install a micro SD card. Is there any benefit to leaving one installed at all times? Increased storage, but does that help functionally?

I put mine in the centre console. It just fits in the void between the front of the storage bin and the outer casing. The cables are only just long enough.

I ended up putting it in front of the gearshift. It fits well in that place minus the little storage bin (non-AHC version). Does anyone have any solutions for what to do with this little area? Or maybe a different spot for the VLine? I met someone that said they put it to the left of the head unit, or maybe down by their right knee, but I can’t quite figure out where that space is. I prefer this to losing my glove box I think, but still not ideal.

Definitely no room behind the factory head unit. I've got a Vais SL3b bluetooth adapter in both my '05 and '06 which is definitely smaller than the Grom Vline and there's no way it would fit behind the head unit. It did, however, fit next to the driver's side air vent. The Vais fit easily in that spot with extra space above and below, but not much extra width (thickness) space. Not sure if the Grom could fit in this same spot, but perhaps worth a shot.

I will look into it. The only thing that might be tough is that the VLine has wires coming out of both the front and the back, so it would have to be oriented such that the wires could come out the top and bottom I guess. I’ll investigate and report back.

Thread hi-jack alert here but it seems like the correct crowd... Anyone have experience with the VLite V2 instead of the VLine? In their comparison table it doesn't look like I'll be missing anything that I need. Searching for "VLite" on the entire forum only returns 7 results.

Thanks in advance - Cheers,

i'm running the VLine VL2, so I can't help you. But I've always found GROMaudio customer service to be pretty responsive. i'd just reach out to them.

Anyone find a better place to put the VL2 or VT2 other than the glove compartment? I saw someone say they put their VAIS Tech Bluetooth to he left of the driver side vent but the VT2 definitely won't fit there. The mechanical packaging on the GROM is pretty disappointing.

I put mine under the carpet - just under the air vent that blows onto the front passengers feet. Kind of up on that side wall area to the left there.
