I put mine under the carpet - just under the air vent that blows onto the front passengers feet. Kind of up on that side wall area to the left there.
Genius @porkandcorn ! Got my glove box back tonight.
Ended up rotating the unit 90deg clockwise but this location fits perfectly, can barely tell it’s there. Weathertech fits.

Edit to add- @smoltz -agreed, it’s a ridiculous sized box

That’s a great location. Looking forward to putting mine there when i get it back.

For anyone interested in long term use, i got mine a little over a year ago. Installed without issue and used in my 2006 lx 470 for that time loving it. A few weeks before Christmas, my reverse camera and the grom UI displayed a black screen. Lexus UI still working fine but there was an issue with the grom unit sending video to the head unit.

Used User chat function on Grom website to get help. Some frustration bc it said chat unavailable despite pointing me to it as the first point of contact. Seem like they may have limited people answering chat, but it worked an hour later.

The tech said that it was a problem they’d heard come up several times recently. I didn’t update firmware on it, so i didn’t think it would be that, but he had me try to manually update firmware with a usb stick.

Tried that and it didn’t work. They are honoring a warranty claim on it to replace the video board. I mailed it off this week. Will report back my experience when i receive a new/refurbished unit.

All in all, still pleased with product. It’s good they’re standing behind it. Biggest complaint right now is the difficulty in getting all the wires unplugged repeatedly to test firware update. Those are difficult to get unplugged and i don’t how long until the tabs break off. Glad i didnt have to take the dash apart again to unplug everything and send it in, hopefully won’t have to do warranty on wires soon too.

Just to follow up. I completed the installation today. Went pretty smoothly, definitely took longer than I had planned.

I ended up putting the unit behind the carpet on the left side of the passenger side footwell. This seemed to work really well. There is plenty of room there. I snaked all of the wires into the glove compartment area and then down as I found this easier then trying to go straight down.

I put the USB in the factory cigarette lighter area. I thought I had seen people remove the trim surround there without removing the shifter trim but on my 07 this is not possible. I used a cigarette lighter removal tool to release the clips and then disconnect harness and then put a bunch of tape around Grom USB and then tucked it into the white shroud that the cigarette lighter was in, looks pretty much factory.

I put the microphone in the overhead console on the right side. I have a 2007 with factory Bluetooth and the OEM microphone is installed on the left side of the overhead console where there are slats but the right side (where there are also slats) empty so I just taped the microphone to the standoff where the clip is and then ran the wire down the passenger a pillar behind the glove box and down to the unit. Had to crank up the gain but recorded audio quality / phone calls / voice recognition all seem excellent.

My first impression was that the touch screen accuracy was terrible but then I did a calibration and adjusted image and actually it's pretty solid. Obviously the video quality is not great, but overall it's a good experience and looks factory.
