Using my grom with a Samsung note 9 and android auto. Is there a way to connect wireless for android auto? Also, my phone still connects for calls thru the cars phone system. There is always a delay. I would rather just ignore the cars phone system and just connect thru the grom with blutooth

Lol - Merci mon ami.

Fwiw when I choose language in the MFD and select English the screen goes dark.
I had similar “black MFD” after a Grom update. I had the luxury of being able to swap a spare VL1 for my “bricked” VL2 until Grom provided a recovery image to get the VL2 back up and running.

I removed the VL1 from the truck- and my MFD is still non responsive: no NAV, no back up cam and Inoperable language selection. I do have climate thankfully. I hope that update didn’t Chernobyl an ecu.

I deleted my phone from the stock Bluetooth so there’s no interference. There should be a device connection on the settings.

I had similar behavior with my "bricked" VL2. I started digging out my "spare" navigation box that goes under the seat, but decided to try the old spare VL1 first... I got to breathe a sigh of relief, when the old VL1 "fixed" all of my MFD issues (until the VL2 was un-bricked).

My VL1 is non-responsive. MFC gave me back control of language selection today, and navigation. But back up cam and VL1 is doa.

Waiting for Grom to reply with a reset procedure.

The procedure for the VL2 was something like:

You will need a USB flash drive. Make sure is freshly format FAT32 that is empty.
Download the file onto the USB flash drive and rename it gromvl1.hex
1. Before proceeding with loading the firmware,
Switch the radio to to FM before turning off and unplugging the Vline module
2. Switch Ignition OFF
3. Unplug the VLINE module from the vehicle
4. Insert the USB flash drive with the renamed file gromvl1.hex into the lower USB port (labeled USB2)
5. Reconnect power to the VLine module. Pay attention to the LED light on the USB drive, It should flash and then turn off. Once LED is off then the firmware is flashed/loaded.
6. After the firmware flashed, simply turn Ignition to ON position, then OFF then ON, wait for 10 seconds after Splash screen off, then press DISC button and see if it displays Vline logo or anything Vline related
Let me know if you have any questions about the process and steps.

(But I can't help with the VL1 firmware file)

The question that I loved from Grom's support staff, "What version are you running?"... Well if it would boot up, I'd tell you, otherwise assume that I was running the latest version.

Any tricks into getting the grom Vline to show up when my phone is searching for Bluetooth? The grom does not see my phone and the phone wont see the grom.

When I’ve had issues pairing via BlueTooth, it’s generally been resolved by either toggling BlueTooth off/on (on both devices) or rebooting both devices.

Appreciate the landing coordinates- with reversion to older software V29 and your install instructions I have a functioning system again.

Seems that VL1 looks for new updates and prompts for download of anything newer than what's installed. Problem with that is recent updates are written for VL2 and there is nothing in place to keep VL1 from migrating the software written for VL2.

Cheers

Man, I hope I don’t regret buying a V2 the other day with all this talk of bricks and stuff!

Remember, the ones that work perfectly don't make the conversation. Mine glitched; I had to a fuse-out reset to get the latest firmware to load... then perfection. I'm sure it'll glitch and need an update later... like my iPhone, TV, laptop, cars...

About the only time I felt any regret, was the first few months of being an early adopter of the VL1 (~12/2016). Once they got past the major bugs, that made the unit almost unusable, it's been a much better experience. I enjoyed the VL1 enough to purchase a VL2 (~07/2018), and at this point, I don't think I could stand a "factory nav" LC/LX without one.

I think my VL1 and VL2 have each "bricked" once, (both by a failed upgrade/update) but they were both fairly easily recovered.

Can you use the FM radio and CarPlay at the same time? I would like to be able to show the carplay for my directions and then have the FM radio playing.
I got this to work on my 02 with ML by disconnecting the factory nav unit under the passenger seat. I can press disc to make the vline/carplay show on the screen then press FM to get the radio to play. Obvious downside is the carplay directions notifications etc don't play the audio. Hit disc again to get the audio from the carplay again.

Welp, I tried installing my Grom VLine 2 yesterday, and everything seemed to be going okay. I even had it working well enough to try connecting to WiFi. Then, I went to turn the car on and the screen went black, and now it won't come back on. I tried re-seating all the plugs on the back and disconnecting the grom piggyback cables - still nothing. Now the stereo/nav/climate control are all dead. :( I checked the fuses and all seem good.

The rear defrost buttons still turn on and off.

I have 04 LX, could this be the dreaded Pin 60 issue? I was having zero issues before I tried installing the grom.

When you put it all back to factory did you disconnect the battery and try it? Is your back up camera working? I had similar issues

Hmmm, I'll have to try disconnecting the battery with the mfd completely unplugged. Not sure I did it that way.
