This is awesome, be safe, you kick ass!

Well, I almost made it all the way home without getting caught...

The officer let me off with a warning, so I got pretty lucky. It was the license plate light that got me nabbed. I was 35 minutes away from making it home.

Now the fun begins...

Awesome. Thanks for sharing this on Mud. Your 60 will inspire the 80 to dress to the nines.

having similar issues w/a new purchase as well; can you elaborate ?

Not really, I think we got lucky. The wiring diagram indicates that the fuse panel goes directly to the brake switch. Using a volt meter, we tested the brake switch and it was fine. We also had power at the brake fuse, and the fuse was good, but for some reason current was not getting to the brake switch. We knew this was obviously where the problem was, so we tried a few different fuses and wiggled things around a bit, and finally got them to work.

I’m still pretty green when it comes to the 80-series, so I don’t know if electrical issues are this prevalent across the board, but my truck seems like it has loose electrical connections everywhere.

I have to jiggle the headlight harness to get the lights to work, the switch for the brights does not work, blown bulbs everywhere... with the exception of the trailer harness, everything is stock and unmolested. The stereo is original, so no one has been in there splicing things up either.

I hope this helps. I think you’ll just have to get your volt meter and start chasing wires though.

thanks for that; just found my issue; maybe it'll; help you...

was having what I *thought* was a cross between 2 rear sidemarkers, and rear brake, with 1/2 of the 1157 not lighting ...
so
1: make certain all your bulbs are good; 194's everywhere, as well as 1157
2: for me, the brake pedal had lost whatever sits in the hole to meet the brakeswitch; was intermittant, so also confused the situation
3: start wiggling wires; turns out my tailight pigtail ground was loose at socket to bulb on driver side...!

still can't figure mine out, works with hatch up not down..........

That sounds like a broken wire. The common droopy wiper is caused by a worn bushing allowing the linkage arm to fall down onto the steel pin. Annoyingly, you can't buy a new bushing from Toyota, but I think the whole linkage is around $50. Part 85170-60070.

I’ve been slowly going through the truck, just trying to clean and assess what needs to be done and in what priority. It’s easy to do everything all at once, but that is costly and not as much fun. I prefer a more gradual process. That way, it’s a little while longer before I’m looking for the next project.

Well... this was definitely a heavy smoker’s truck. I removed the center console and there was enough loose tobacco to roll a carton of cigarettes. It was grimy and gross... still kinda is, even after a quick cleanup. I also found some schedule 4 narcotics under there. If I would have taken I-10 home, I would have had to stop at a border patrol station. The drug dogs would have definitely gone insane.

Looks like a tweaker lived in this truck... Found a little bit of change too...

I also removed the third row and shampooed the rear cargo area...

It’s still pretty dirty. I didn’t do a very thorough deep clean, because I’m going to gut the interior and rip the carpet out to pressure wash. I’ll do that when the new seat covers arrive.

Finally, I removed the hitch and spare tire (since it was bald and flat anyway) and increased the ground clearance by quite a bit.

You can try removing the wiper arm and reinstalling it in the proper place. It takes two minutes and worked like a charm on mine.

Man, i have a couple ultra minor electrical gremlins, but seems like youve had more than your fair share.

I love white cruisers, landed on my grey one, but going fde with it since the paint is trashed and i wheel it through a lot of az “trees”.

If i owned a white one, it would be a pavement princess haha

you will be surprised how clean you can get it when you pull the carpet out. You will be grossed out by how much filth comes out. I use simple green (good for enviro) and a scrub brush along with a power washer. I usually apply and scrub 2x, then I hang to dry on the side of the car. Makes a world of difference in the smell. Consider using this opportunity to apply a dynamat layer and a foam layer for noise reduction.

any info on the replacement 3rd brake light shown in this pic?

I didn’t have to replace the light. Turns out that the brakes were all inoperable due to a short between the fuse box and the brake switch.

Looks like those rear mud flaps could use some of your white lettering magic.
