Solved a nagging problem that slipped my mind for a while. Finally found a real lower radiator hose.

Time to pull the whole works down for hopefully the final time. Here's a look at the shock/radiator setup without the sheet metal around.

Not much of an update, but the ass end sees the light of day for the 1st time in over a year. Progress!

Arrrrgh! Pulled the valve train off the motor and it's not looking good. I have some pretty hammered exhaust valves. Lifter faces under them don't look so good either. So at the very least we're looking at a new cam and valve train, plus head work.

This thing ran like sewing machine, no clue to the surprises inside.
I think the mileage is under 50k too.

Welding day! Nothing like an ambient temp of 105 in the shade, leather sleeves and no fan in the area to make you want an Icee!;p

While waiting to sort out the engine woes, we have time to prepare all of the fab mods to receive it. Final welded and a few coats of rattle can temporary rust inhibitor. I thank my dry heat environment at this point for me not really caring much about paint durability. This pretty will soon fade into oblivion. Also dropped off the PS box and pump for good going through and minor pressure boost.

Fresh from the power steering doc. Rebuilt and reworked for a little psi boost. Some new fittings/hose waiting to be cut to fit.

Still working on finding the right shop to address engine issues......

Me too. So far, opinions I've heard are, lack of oiling at startup. Lank of zinc in todays oils.

I'm thinking it's weak poor quality metal. If it was something about the oil I would expect all of them to be equally messed up.

And the hits just keep on coming. Pulled the rest of my SBC short block apart and discovered that it's been running stock diameter pistons in a .030 over bore for the past 22 years.

No clue at all in the way it ran before this.

Not too happy with the folks that assisted me with this engine when I was much younger and dumber.

A minor mini update: Not much FJ40 happening due to the sand toy sucking me into it's VW vortex, but good news from the machine shop is my 383 block is a okay and only needs a hone job . Still waiting for the crank report.

And, got some fancy tiggy welding done by my neighbor on the shock hoops. Much better looking than what I would have done with the mig.

......zzzzzzz.......! What? Hey the glucosamine project is stirring back to life. Engine was waiting patiently for parts to arrive. And some have. Should be assembling something soon and put that thing back where it belongs, not on an engine stand.....
