Where were all those people going? Sandia is closed this season.

Some were just driving around, others were headed to the ski resort to do telemarking and AT skiing. Snowboarders go beyond the resort and shuttle themselves. People like me who is into snowshoeing and cross-country skiing or heading up there everyday during winter, especially after a dump.

That mountain is very busy during winter.

well, I tried to go snowshoeing this am but it took me 2.5 hours just to get nearly to the top of Sandia. This is a 20 mile drive that usually takes me around 40 min but not today. Pulled out folks on the way up and down. This was the first time I got to snowshoe on the hwy!

This is where mother nature said "yeah, RIGHT. You should've brought the 80 with all four tires chained up, you silly man". I turned around here and parked facing downhill off the shoulder then went snowshoeing to the Ellis trailhead parking lot.

Awe man, I wish I had a winch. I would start a side biz recovering people up there.

You would just patrol the highway up and down all day looking to save someone, yes? 😁

Ali, just put some signs along the road with your number and $40 recovery charge. 🤭
There is a wash that runs down the middle of the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs). There was only one bridge for miles. The rest of the crossings dropped down, then back up. During heavy rains the wash would flood and people would be dumb enough to try and cross. My wife and here ex would drive down to the washes in their IH Scout and pull people out for $20. That would have been in the late 70's. I think $40 is cheap considering inflation.

😁

That’s what I’m saying. Way cheaper than a tow truck and ATM’s like increments of 20. Win win.

Current situation at my house in Sandia Park, viewed out the window of my home office. This part of the house is generally sheltered from the wind so the snow just drops after the wind blows it over my roof. It's hard to get work done from home when it's a winter wonderland outside.

Drove by your area a little while ago. It is pretty out there, but a lot of stupid people are out. Had a dude in a 4runner pass me on 217. I was doing 35.

Looks like I am going to be the only one at work for a while this morning.

Sounds like the dude in the 4Runner wants to end up rolled over in a ditch. I'm giving it another hour before I test things out and head to work in ABQ.

10am delay start was nice surprise today eh? 🥶

Brian
Yeah, too bad I have the ability to WFH so I've been online since 7 and wishing I was outside with the snow blower.

Oh hell yeah baby, we got SNOW! Luka and I went snow showing up at the top earlier today, at least 6 in of fresh stuff.

What ? No Doggie snow shoes?/?? LOL

I apply Musher's Secret wax to all dogs' paws before snowshoeing and it works really well. That is some good stuff, I tell you what.

One of these days I need to ski down there at Ski Apache.

Um... Do you think you could ski all the way from your place to Apache?
I don't know...
