Well, it looks like its time for me to go silver already :grinpimp:. I'll post more once I get my good camera back (and a silver star). Today I'll be bleeding the brakes and beginning my assesment of what needs to be tackled first.

I can see that your 55, like my old 55, came with the rare and coveted "signature glovebox" option.

 It's strange that it is the only wood trim in there--I always thought it was an aftermarket (read=some PO made it in middle school shop class).

20 bucks and its yours!

So, I've been a bit busy this week on my pig. Drained and refilled Front and Rear diff, TC and xmission. Lokks like I have 1 bad u-joint on the front driveline...20 bucks. Priced tie rod ends for my steering, trying to decide which way to go (restore the stock or PS it)...20 some bucks per end. Got some nice replacement rear turnsignal plastic from a parts pig...cost? 20 bucks. Put on a new muffler from Kenechts and a Holley carb rebuild kit....yep! 20 bucks for the muffler, almost 20 for the rebuild kit. It is so refreshing to fix things on a car an all I do is get 20'd to death here and there. Of course, I see some bigger cost on the horizon (I'll need way more than 1 tie rod end :D, or all the parts to go PS; that holley that's on there is seriously fscked, but it should hopefully lst me until the rebuilt aisin gets back from Mark, of course I still gotta send it to him!) but I'm budgeting for that. I have a mechanic at my shop who volunteers to help me--I think I have him hooked! He wants to get something more luxurious (LX450 or an 80 series), but I see the gleam beginning in his eye when he looks at the pig. Curtains I tell ya! Also, my TLCA membership came in the mail. :grinpimp::beer:

Been a durn good week!

Sounds like it has been a good week! I still have to ship you that carb. Better go put it in the car now so I don't forget it on the kitchen counter....again.

No problem--just remind me on email and Ill post up the paypal :grinpimp:

Took my pig on its first long trip at highway speed this weekend--nothing off-road, just a nice scenic drive. She runs good, if a bit loud. I'm in a holding pattern--got the old Aisin from K9 and a dizzy. Getting ready to send them off to get rebuilt. I have a four day weekend this next--think I'll test her out on some rougher trails, see if'n I can't find me a good Hedgehog or chantrelle patch. :grinpimp:

beautiful! what color is it? i can't tell from the pics on my computer if it is black or green . . . and if someone has already posted the color, please forgive me . . . i did not read all of the thread, haha . . . just lazy

It's a Forest Green/White at the moment--I'd like to take it back to the original color green. Some sort of lighter green.

WELCOME!!!

As a fellow Oregonian with the addiction I know the rush! I just bought a Winch for my 71 pig this week!
I am up in Corvallis.
That pig looks alot like one that was for sale up here. The owner moved without selling it as far as I know.
I thought it was a 69 though. Does yours have a kinda funky driverside floor patch?

If you need any parts PM me I have a few 55 parts. There are also several 55 guys on Cascade cruisers so it is kinda nice. I have traded some 55 parts some of the guys up there.

Also if you are thinking about power steering option I have a Minitruck box and Saginaw pump and Toyota pump in a box that I am not using, I am going with a fj60 box. All you would need is to build or buy a bracket from Ironpig offroad and get some hoses. Maybe some pulley mods too.

The Cascade Cruisers are a great group of guy but it is a drive to Portland. They actually meet tonight. If you ever want to carpool to a meeting let me know. There discussion board is pretty good too.

That would be awesome! Was thinking of going minitruck anyway as I never plan on wheeling the tunk out of it on 37's. AFAIK, this piggy has been in Springfield for a while. I'll definitely hook up that PS setup--my steering is my next biggie project. Thanks!

Nice! I'll keep an eye out for you in the area. I know of several 60 series in the area but 55's are a rare sighting in Eugene.:bounce2:.

Well I finally got my carb shipped off to Mark!

Soon she will be running niice and smooth!

well, finally have gotten around to putting said new carb on after a hiatus this summer and a TDY courtesy of Uncle Sam. The issue I have run into is the fact that the old Holley that was on there pulled straight back to the firewall, and the Aisin pulls parallel to the firewall. Otherwise it sits on just fine. Haven't quite figured out how to make what I got werk without just buying all the stuff from accelerator forward to carb from Mark. Thanks again for that carb, Lucy!

Here's a pic of the fab piece that was under the oil filter and the T end I'll have to adapt to a ball/socket type:

What do they call that dark colour on your pig. Its kind of like the color you get from squashing garden snails:D
It was a great find.

The 55 was the 1st cruiser I ever went in when ourt high school got a new one off the govt for outdoor education.
Ours had troopy seats down the back where 4 kids could squeeze in.
Im remember watching the bowser as it was filled up and the teacher saying he was glad it was the govt paying:D

yeh, even more so if it had the F gasser in it

That paint jobbie is a previous PO. the color underneath is that sea-foam green. I would so like to score some of those troopy seats in the back.

Well, the only update I have right now is a sad one. My Pig has been sitting for a year at my new place, blown engine, and I've had no time to work on it. My commute has been a 4 hour 200 mile round trip with a 9 hour day in between. So now it sits waiting for some love. I'm in a debate with myself whether or not to rebuild it (already have a rebuild carb and distributor thanks to Mark) or go the "easy" way out and drop a chevy smallblock or a used 2F. Stock or mod? Stock or mod? I can't decide. But now that I am back in school I'll have much more time to fiddle around with it. I know they say its better to get it running then make it pretty, but I was thinking of tackling the rusty bits of the body first and start saving for an engine. Rust removal is mostly just sweat equity.
