I looked around but was unable to find a color wiring diagram online for the 72/73 FJ40. I find the one in the Haynes manual basically unusable, and did not want to pay $20 to someone on ebay or amazon to wait a week to get one, so I created my own color diagram starting with the 73 that was posted here:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-wiring-diagrams.571376/

This is a vector PDF so you can blow it up as large as you like, and zoom in as far as you want, and you will not lose any quality.

I was pretty methodical with the creation of the diagram, and double checked everything, but if any errors are found, please let me know and I will update the document.

Enjoy.

Thanks, looks pretty good. It will come in handy when I go in to clean up some wiring issues.

Excellent, thanks for creating this. I also really appreciate the attention to detail - and pretty awesome you saved it in vector format. Cheers!

Hey Ezra, great job on the diagram! I was wondering if you also did one for the wiring harness? I was thinking of doing my own as I'm rewiring my truck (72 FJ40) anyway so figured I'd help others out for future, unless one already exists!

If I make it myself, I'll also keep it in vector and share here!

Thanks Man!

I admire your work on this, especially the vector format, but just be aware that the schematic you used to make this colored version, is not entirely correct for a 1973 US FJ40. The Haynes schematic is actually dead on for correctness, but is a bit hard to follow especially in the rear light area as it shows the weird trailer wiring hookup.

Here are just a few of the errors:

First, the always on power circuit is completely incorrect. It should be White wire from Battery+ to fusible link, to Amp Meter +, then White/Blue from Amp Meter - to Alternator B+, with a splice in the White/Blue going to a Black/Red going to Key Switch.

The Brake Low Pressure Warning Light is shown as being part of the gauge cluster. It is actually a separate light on the dash. It also needs to show the Brake Low Pressure Switches as being grounded.

The regulator should only have three wires: White/Black, White/Green and White/Red not 6 wires as shown.

The 73 does not have a charge light.

The dash turn indicator bulbs are labeled backwards.

I stopped looking for more errors at that point...

Ah, good eyes @Coolerman . Looks like @Ezra based his work on an original post from Trollhole. Trollhole diplomatically states "I can't be sure they're 100% correct (but here you go)"... now we know.

I've found some errors on this diagram, too. It might be easier to shoot you a picture, if you're interested in updating it. My email is vsvenson at gmail

I need to see if I even have the original files anymore....but good catches.
