Did you ever say how many miles are on the rig? I may be interested in the trans.

Sub'd! Intrigued to watch you put this together as I'll be looking for options down the road. Im really leaning towards a Toyota V8 swap, so I'll watch you and see options!

Cool, Ill try to post as much info as possible as well as the costs. So far i have 3,550 in this swap but i have almost everything i need

Way to dive in... I'm very curious of where those cats end up under the 80. I hear the computer is finiky about how far of a distance they are away from the engine. Have you heard about that? I read it somewhere so it must be true...

Ok So ive been collecting parts for this build for a few months,

But I'm still at loss on what manifolds to run?

It has to be CA Legal, Ive heard 2000 Camaro Manifolds but those have egr ports. My 05 5.3 has no egr.

I also would really like to run the cats outboard the frame rails much like the stock exhaust.

Ive been looking at alot of 5.3 swap thread many people are running headers and the exhaust inside the rails.

Just move to Texas... You can delete every bit of emissions stuff on any vehicle and be just fine!! haha.. I've swapped a LS2 in my 68 bel air wagon and had no cats.. it's all in the tune. I also bought a brand new harness from PSI Conversion. It was plug and play!!!

I used 2000 Camaro manifolds on my bel air build. They are nice and tucked to the side of the motor.

Someone had to know what manifolds I need. Please help!

Hahah, Yea California has its pros and cons. Ive seen them with no cats here as well, just one 02 for air/fuel mixture and your off. I know a programmer that can even make the monitor complete for the obd2 readiness monitors. But we have a visual inspection as well here.

There are two factors here, whats legal and what fits?

I know that the 1st 02 sensor can only be so far away from the manifold, and the 02s can only be so far from the cats. But exactly how much leway, I cant seem to find that info.

I want to run it out board, just like the factory but True dual. Since the 05 5.3 only has two cats from the factory & 4 02 sensors one just before and after each cat I should be able to do whatever I want behind the Rear 02.

Any Thoughts?

Some times it's just if the smog referee is in a good mood that day...

So is the 5.3 installed, just waiting on manifolds? Where are you at with this?

Maybe it would be cheaper if you just bought some property in Arizona & register it there. You could maybe @Tools R Us new neighbor?

I have about 90% of the parts for the swap at this point.

I mocked up the power-train on the garage floor that's ready to drop in.

But I do not want to place the engine until I have the manifolds so I can account for where they dump out, when I place the engine in the bay.
