I have spoken with one of the folks who originated the 3D file. I’m going to take that and mold it, then cast in a heat-hardened acrylic resin. Once a good mold is made I’ll be able to cast many of them pretty quickly. More details when I start working on this.
Excuse my ignorance, but what material are you going to cast these from?

How did this gear workout, I'd like to get 2 of them if yer still printing themSo, I needed a rear window gear...we found the most recent 3-D print file and made one. I have not tested this yet. want to do a little sanding between the teeth. It will be installed over the weekend and I will let people know how it goes. If someone else wants to be a test dummy let me know and I will look into printing a few more and will send them out for free in the US.

Hey Bubba- Still haven't had anyone test one of these gears yet. If you want to volunteer and promise that you'll install it in a few weeks, I'll send you one. I just need a full report back - any undue wear and tear, fitment, gear mesh, etc. I mentioned above a couple people elsewhere volunteered to test these. I mailed them out and both guys vanished. Don't be that guy haha! How did this gear workout, I'd like to get 2 of them if yer still printing them
Thanx
How much will these cost and where you located?Hey Bubba- Still haven't had anyone test one of these gears yet. I will say that this gear is based on one that's known to work. It's not like it's going to be a total dud and a waste of time. Really, I'm curious about the material more than anything.
The thought behind a composite/epoxy/urethane/plastic material is that it's the engineered failure point - the fusible link. If you put too strong of a gear in there, other things might get damaged ... things that are more difficult to find than a replacement gear. I know aluminum is fairly soft, but I think the urethane will be a nice middle ground. With my molding/casting process I can rip out a dozen of these in maybe four hours, plus some more time to bake them off in the over so they cure to their full hardness. If you have the 3d file there are maker folks that would do them in say aluminium. I'd bet the price would come down a bunch if you did a run of 10 or more. Set up time is a big part of production cost. A 12" piece of 6061 3" OD is like $90, guessing $10 per gear material cost. They could cut the teeth full length, then part them off and do the hole.
Have you tried it in your piggy? The thought behind a composite/epoxy/urethane/plastic material is that it's the engineered failure point - the fusible link. @Hamachi I'm in Denver. Haven't gotten a price together yet. If people keep requesting free ones for testing and never responding the price might go up too haha. I don't think they'll be astronomical though. The material isn't cheap but it makes quite a few. There's a little labor. Plus about a buck for a padded mailing envelope.
Sold my pig a few years ago sadly, I wasn't prepared with the proper pig sty at home yet.. I still daily my 60, which is getting a fully fresh 2F (whenever I have time to assemble the dang thing), and there's an early-ish 40 languishing in my garage that needs ... everything. One day a pig will come back to me though. I'm more ready now.Have you tried it in your piggy?
It's the three horizontal dots at the bottom of your post.Theres no edit button, I'll just have to live dangerously I guess. This is my first time ever trying a forum like this, I'll figure this out eventually Thanx
