Well. I just started working on my FJ40 laundry list of fixes since my purchase. The list is long and getting longer.

First, I wanted to figure out why the emergency/parking brake seemed loose. Well.. that was easy, when I looked underneath the FJ40, there was no parking brake cable. So, I order one and when I went underneath to install, I noticed no brackets and/or anything to attach the cable to.

I've looked all over, but I can't find anything that shows how this is attached. I was assuming some brackets off the frame, etc. but nothing. Does anyone have any pictures and/or schematics for the underneath. This is on a 1982 FJ40.

Thanks in advance. Mitch

I think I may have solved some of my problems. I found a post/thread where someone ripped off the parking brake cable on a stump and posted some very good pictures. I've also been using some of the parts websites pics and diagrams to piece everything together. I guess its a work in progress.

I have a 80-83 rear axle housing loose from a truck right now if you need any extra measurements or pictures.

Here's the oem diagram. Read the FSM found here. That should answer every question you have.

Little hijack , what is the difference between 81-82 and 83-84 cable assembly
Mounting tabs on the axle IIRC. Minor difference
