20 minutes of poking around yesterday and I couldn't find it.

Huh? You have to pull out the heater duct in front of the passenger's feet. It should not take one minute once that's out of the way. There's only one fuse on that side.

I must be blind, I did pull out the heater duct. There was nothing that looked like a fuse, but it is kind of messy with bedliner overspray up there. I'll look again tonight, if I cannot find it, I will take some pictures. Thanks.

I honestly am not sure what that fuse is your pointing to now. Looking at the schematic I could see why you thought that. Maybe someone will chime in. Just find the computer module and it will be right there. On my '82 it's underneath the driver's side.

Thanks the good pictures guys. I think I make sure the fan and the temp sensor is in working order before a start pulling the AC out of the way. Although I think remember reading it is most often that fuse. I have that same double fuse box by the battery too.

So I found my fuse, alongside the control box. For me , it was under the dash on the drivers side, just to the right of the steering column. Sure enough, my fuse was blown. I don't have any 5amps on me, so I can't test it tonight, but hopefully that will fix it.

Edit: it works! Was just the fuse.

I just looked to the right if the steering column and there it was, yellow tape and all. My LC was built in June of 79. How about yours? Maybe the later model ones are all by the steering column. Did they use the yellow tape to make it easier find fuses all over the vehicle? Thanks again.

That was the conclusion I came to as well. Mine is from 2/80. Pretty sure our vehicles are close to identical, since it wasn't until later in 1980 that some changes were made. Glad It helped. Hopefully your fix is just as easy :)

Fuse in, works like a charm. That would be cool to move it. It was a PITA to put it back in and I couldn't get the yellow tape back on.

Good to know. Mine are '76 and '78.

Are you saying that your 78 fj40 fuse is to the right of the steering column? I can see some yellow tape to the left of the steering column but do not feel anything that feels like a fuse inside the wiring. I found the 5a fuse near the cooling fan relay and replaced that, no luck getting it to work. Thanks

No, saying that I was surprised the fan relay was near the steering wheel, as opposed to on the passenger side firewall.

Hello Folks,

My 79 carb fan is not working either, manually test the carb fan is working.
I just not sure how that carb fan suppose to work. Fan control relay board looks good no signed of burning any thing, good solder joints.
Any help or provide a diagram for the 79 will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

There are some diagrams beginning on post #144 of this thread.

I think most problems people have are covered in this thread. Seems like for most of us, it was just the hard to find fuse that was the problem.

Thanks Folks, found the fuse holder underneath the dash close to the fan relay
control box way up on hard to see and reach, the fuse holder still factory yellow
tape wrapped. No one ever get to it since the last more than 30 some years
still original factory fuse, found this 5A fuse was blown.
Replace with new one and it works great the way it should be.
Thanks again....

Wonder why this fan is not at all found in any FJs we run here despite of the high temperatures in which these rigs are operated in Pakistan specially during summer?
