Thanks Ehsan, they look awesome! I wish I could wait on one but I am moving in a couple weeks and need something pronto. I have one of your soft tops/bow packages but living here in San Diego I like to go "topless" a lot of the year...jst looking for something to keep the dew, sun and surprise rainstorm(not that often) from ruining my intertior at my new place.

Found a cab cover that might be similar in size to a 40 that is "waterproof" and breathable made by Bestop that doesn't break the bank. Trail Covers, All Weather - Tops and Accessories for Jeep & GM, Ford, Dodge Trucks by Bestop Not sure which is going to be closer in size the 4 door Jeep Unlimited or the 2 door Jeep Unlimited that they only made for 2 years. I have one of the long wheel base 2 door Jeep Unlimited's at the ranch so I am getting some exact cab measurements to compare...will post up the comparisons.
 
When I bought my 40 it came with a cover the PO said it was for a bronco. It has elastic all around the front and rear and eyelets in the middle so I put a bungie under the rig to help hold her down from flapping in heavy wind. I had it on with the hardtop and spare tire fine. Sorry no pic though....
 
BTW the Walmart one is not waterproof it is "water resistant" so if you don't have a top on underneath there I would leave it out in a downpour too often.
 
yeah for me I want to only keep the dust off so I don't have to wash it too much, the walmart stuff is cheap for sure, but it should work, was at wally world yesterday and they did not have any in stock for jeeps so I am sure you will have to order it for pickup, I may look into some other possible better ones, rain x had one there that looked really nice for $100 and was waterproof but not the right type though. My soft top and hard doors stay on all year long and I just roll up or down the sides of the top for the summer. Much easier that way.

I found some decent ones from empire. This cover was a replacement cover for a custom cover that cost three times as much and started leaking water and collecting dust under the cover in less than a year. My Empire cover is 4 months old, has survived numerous strong thunderstorms and seering Texas sun, and so far is exceeding my expectations. I have 3 cars under cover, soon the other two will be covered by Empire.

The Wally World cover works great w/ just a bikini top and there's so much extra material it has to work with a hard-top installed. Heck, the cover came halfway down my 33" tires, so it might even work if you have a small roof rack on the hardtop. Didn't get to rain test it, but I sprayed it with a hose and the water beaded and rolled off, so for my use (over-night camping w/ no hardtop) it should be fine.
 
I finally got the measurements off the 04-06 Wrangler Unlimited (2 Door long wheel base) and it is really similar to the 40. I ended up going with a waterproof breathable cover from Empire Car Covers JEEP Wrangler Unlimited 2006 that I found through Amazon. A little more expensive $109 but it sounds pretty bomber. Here are the demensions of the Wrangler Unlimited as compared to MY 40...btw I have a Ehsan top and bows on which is close to a hard top in rear height terms so take that into account. It keeps pushing my spacing together when I post so basically the 1st dem is the Jeep and 2nd dem is FJ40.

Pretty darn close. I might end up getting one of the Best Top cab cover too just so I don't have to hassle with a full cover all the time but gonna wait and see how much I would need it.
 
Have the PP III cover on the 55. Been on it for over a year. Did a good job of keeping the rain off at first. Not so much now. otted through on the top due to the sun. Melted in several spots when the backpack leaf blower got to close.

All in all worth the 65 dollars I spent on it. It was cheap.

By the way a cover designed for a 4 dr s-10 works pretty good for 55's

different covers have longer warranties. (usually more money the longer it lasts)
 
"Car covers" are great for storing a prized vehicle indoors to protect it from "indoor dust" and "indoor bird sh#t".

But outdoors they do more harm than good.

Wind chaffs the fabric and eyelets against your paint and the whole thing provides the ideal micro-climate to encourage rust.

So if you're storing your cruiser outdoors - even in a coastal environment - I'd recommend leaving it uncovered rather than using any type of car cover.

And not fully winding-up (leaving small gaps) your passenger and driver windows helps to reduce the moisture-level inside your vehicle too. (Maybe not needed in "Arizona" or "The Great Sandy" though! :hillbilly:)

Finally got the cover today, it's actually made by "Budge". Fits great. I think I will go with the cover for the rain and overnight dew.
 
so I got the rampage car cover and am very pleased! it is fabric but has a good waterproof coating on it. For the $$ spent I am happy, good quality, not sure how much it will last but at that price I can buy a new one each 2 years. It came with a nice cable and lock as well.

Who did you order the cover from and what car was it made for?
I see one on Amazon that is the Rampage 1201 w/3 layers, is that the one you have?

sorry to revive a very old topic but....

I am looking in to buying a cover for my FJ40 mainly to keep the sun, snow and rain off of my OEM soft top. I bought a cover from CCOT and it lasted less than a year ripping in several places. I just recently threw it out and have been covering my truck with a tarp.

I found a nice cover at California Car Cover Company that I am leaning towards - probably a stormweave or ultraweave fabric - check it out here.

Does anyone here have any recent feedback on car covers and a good one that lasts, I would love to hear it. I have covers for my motorcycles made by Nelson Rigg and they are fantastic - water shedding and durable.

BTW - No I do not have a garage and after looking for one in the area for a while, I have decided to go the car cover route.
