Rig: 1978 FJ40 2F

After snapping a 40 yr old bolt the other day I realized I needed to have bag o bolts to use as back ups.

The replacement I found in the hardware store has a larger head not designed for automotive purposes but it worked as a temporary solution regardless.

Does anyone know the specific nomenclature of the bolts used on the FJ40s? Are they the metric JS flange bolts?

If anyone has a recommendation of a source for a bag or assortment yellow zinc coated that would be great. I've found a couple but the prices vary greatly and I'm looking for a full kit for my FJ40. I have quite a few missing all around the truck.

The search didn't yield much in the way of kits.

Thanks in advance and recommendations welcomed.

Perfect! Thanks guys...I hadn't even found them on a Google search which is why I came to Mud. Ordering tonight!

JIS is nice, then the heads are the same as when Toyota built it. If you go with general metric stuff the heads are different sizes and it's frustrating grabbing different wrenches and sockets
Easy to tell when something has been taken apart on a rig when there are different sized bolt heads

5th on Overland Metric ..........

Walk through a salvage yard with an impact driver and a pocket full of sockets.

Strip some newer Toyota’s down.

@calico kid always gets his extra hardware from my driveway!!

are the heads still numerically stamped like the OEM?

It’s like 50/50, some are others are not.

I really prefer the finish of the older bolts compared with the new finish.

Slight hijack but if you don't already know buy a couple JIS screwdrivers for the X head type screws. A Phillips type screwdriver will eventually damage a JIS screw head.

If you get OEM Toyota Bolts, most of them will have the dashes like the first pic above. Very few will have the number stamp, or at least in the 400 pieces of OEM hardware we ordered, that's the way it was.

I've thought about adding the OEM dashes to our hardware. It's a toss up, I think the clean heads look more finished, but the OEM dashes have that cool OEM factor. But you can't get OEM in Stainless Steel...
