Does anyone know if a new M/C gasket comes with a new M/C? Wondering if I should order one from Toyota or not?

Well brake master (won't be ordering from Amazon for that again, as it sat in Texas for 4 days - should have just ordered from Kurt) should be here today and ordered new Advics/Aisin Wheel cylinders. Taking the advice of all the others I will keep the hardware I have and just get the drums machined, NAPA quoted me $14/ea and shouldn't be more than about an hour or so.

Looks like I have a project for next weekend.

This weekend however I am going to grab some plywood so I can install my new Rockford Fosgate 6.5" door speakers since mine buzz at even the slightest bass (Cruiser Christmas present from the wifey).

BATTERY

Today my old Duralast battery gave up the ghost... she made a valiente attempt to get BeBe started this morning in the 20* weather but alas she did not succeed.

But with my gift certificates from the in-laws she gave birth to a Diehard Platinum Group 34 P1!!

However, seems strange that I have what appears to be two fusible links on the positive terminal (seen as white and green). The green one I know is stock, but the other? Next for the electrical will be a battery cable upgrade from Fourrunner.

Oh and for those that may be wondering... approximate dimensions of the stock tray are 12.5"Lx7.5"W, I ended up having to make a small "booster" plate to have the battery sit on otherwise the holder would not touch the battery. So from my measurements, even a Group 65 battery (normally 12"x7"x7") will work there aside from possible height issues. Had I known that earlier I would have grabbed the Group 65 as it is the same price.

Greg, good luck on the brakes once you get all the parts. I'm very happy with the work I did during my knuckle rebuild with new rotors and brake pads. All else was serviceable and the difference after all was said and done was quite noticeable.

How much is Sears charging for said battery these days? I have a no name battery that seems to be quite robust, leftover from the PO, but have my eyes on your battery as a likely replacement option once it decides to go south. Any details on why you picked this one is appreciated.

Scott

Yeah I can't wait to have fully functioning brakes again.

The battery was $234 with tax, they do go on sale monthly for about $197 (of course that was last week) and it is usually a one day sale. I have found online that they go on "major" sale about once every three months so I was waiting for that, and when I say major sale I mean they can usually be had for about $150.

As to why I picked the DieHard Platinum, well it is made by Ener-Sys. From the research I have done the normal DieHard batteries are ok at best but the Platinum are their AGM style batteries and made by a very VERY good company that also primarily makes Odyssey batteries. I was going to go with an Interstate Mega-Tron II battery but once I got the Sears gift cards, I figured I would spend that same amount with the gc's and get a truly stellar battery.

:bang:Well so much for the redoing of the brakes....
Toyota ended up having to order the Master Cylinder gasket from the east coast so wont be here until later this week. I was going to just go ahead and do it with the one that I have on there hoping that it was in good condition only to find that I have a leak between the M/C and booster which means the gasket is toast.

We are gone have this week and next week so it is going to have to wait unfortunately.

To make matters worse, I was driving to help our friend paint their gym yesterday and heard a weird grinding/buzzing noise (kinda reminded me of the sound a card in your bike spokes makes) coming from behind my dash. Couldn't figure out what it was until it finally stopped and I saw my speedo was not working.

Once I got home I took the dash apart and low and behold my 4 month old aftermarket speedo cable had snapped behind the speedometer.. $(*&%@:bang::bang:

Looks like I should have spent the money on the OEM instead of the aftermarket. That will teach me. Thankfully I have bought AISIN stuff for the brakes so I have no worries there for that kind of thing.

When in doubt, go OEM it has shown me that a little extra time waiting for the money is much better spent.

Greg sorry to hear that your supply chain is holding you up. Trust me the wait will be worth it.

Thanks for the info on the battery. I will file all of that away and keep my eyes peeled for one on sale.

Get some gasket paper and make your own. Easy to do.

Dyno

You can get gasket paper at NAPA or your LAPS. I have used cardboard from an old box too (cereal boxes work well)

Dyno

Thanks Dyno, I will keep that in mind but unfortunately wont have the time this week to try and tackle it and it has been seriously cold here the last few weeks which makes it hard to work on the truck in a 1 car garage.

Gasket came in yesterday and picked it up at lunch. Low and behold the wife is off early and it is a balmy 38* out right now!! Looks like I might get "time" to do this after all.

No one answered you so I will.... I think you are a bit confused on what a fusible link is.

The fusible link is simply the wires between the white and green connectors. The connectors are present to allow R&R if/when it fails.

In other words... no, no, no... you don't have two fusible links... yours is exactly as came from factory.

cheers

That is what I figured dbleon thanks for answering.

So the latest saga of the brake master is I finally got the RIGHT gasket but now I cannot find the right steel lines to go between the master and clutch slave since the flare nuts on mine are toast. From what I have found I believe they are 10mmx1.0 with 3/16 OD. Anyone know?!

G, pretty sure that is correct. double flare end also IIRC.

Thanks J.... The only parts store that wasn't open was NAPA so I will give them a call tomorrow and see if they have it and if nothing else stop by on my lunch.

LOL.. this is now turning into a comedy! Got to NAPA to find the smallest length they have is 20"! Seriously, WTF! So looks like I am ordering online from O'Reilly as they are the only ones that actually list on their website and Autozone only sells up to 6mm in IMPORT specific sizes.

Oh and I almost forgot.. to make things even better, my rear window defrost completely stopped working today. :bang: Just not having any luck lately.

Ok and here is something I was just thinking of (not really"working" today LOL). Since I will be replacing the brake master cylinder, would it be wise to bleed the clutch system as well?

Funny thing, I ordered the hardlines online through O'Reilly and was there last night and told that they did not have the right sized line. Figured it would take a day or two so I had it sent to the store to save the TWELVE DOLLARS FOR SHIPPING, anyways just got an email that said they are ready for pick up at my local O'Reilly.

Ok seriously! I think I give up on this week.

Steel Import Brake Lines from Brake Master Cylinder to Slave

Well they did have them after all. Funny enough the girl that helped me last night was there and said "your back?" I showed her the paperwork for the online order, she went in back and said "well here is why I couldn't find them, the sticker doesn't even list them as 10mm it list them as 4.7mm x 12" x 3/16"." So I went out and grabbed my m/c (since I had it in the car today) and tested the thread and sure enough..

So for all of you out there, these lines may also be under 4.7mm x 1.0 thread with 3/16" OD tubing (odd I don't get it)

Anyways, as I said above proper size is about 10mm x 1.0 thread with 3/16"OD tube, but may also be found as 4.7mm instead of 10mm.

Unfortunately, I am getting ready to go out of town so I will have to handle this next weekend when I have the time. Brake Master don't fail me now!!!:bang:
