Can you imagine how much f*cking money I could spend on all things aircraft? Well...not really I guess since I don't have it to spend :D

Darcie (Jack aka locrwln's wife) always has told Jack and I: "We need to build a desert race truck and just get it out of our system!" But I'd just get into more trouble

Screw that, he needs one of these. Who needs a helicopter when you can do this....

<snip>
That would never fit all his bling bling camping gear.

Nah. I think Dan would rather have a spressocopter.
Still a little small.

He needs something like this;

Finally, after getting inspired by driving Rusty_TLC's '98, I'm modding the seat brackets to set back 35mm farther. Thanks Dan for moving it up on my "list"!

Should be done with it tomorrow with pics. And quite possibly spressoFAB brackets for other long-leggers :D

Grow some :D

PM me when they are. I'm sick of shoehorning my tall ass into the passenger seat when my wife (who is also 5'11 - 6' depending on shoes :D) wants to drive. I've just been too busy [read: lazy on my days off] to work on my rig, let alone fab my own brackets.

^^^ Will do!

Just got the brackets done and mounted. Now I've got plenty, actually too much length, of seat set back: 23-1/4" from lowest portion of skinny pedal to the front vertical plane of the seat.

I ended up fabbing new brackets; easier, cheaper, better.

For other long leggers: I'll get pricing together this week.

Struck out at Pick and Pull today. But found this in the clearance bin at Summit Racing just down the street from PnP. Even a blind dog finds a bone once in a while

This will be the shiniest thing on my truck :)

OBA? Is it a York?

OBA? Is it a York?

spressoAIR OBAv2 :D

(thanks to hoser for the moniker!)

Sanden via serp belt. I've been using a v-belt Sanden driven off the camshaft for the past year + testing the bracket, etc. And it has passed with flying colors. But I wanted one driven off the serp belt for simplicity and 1:1. Its taken me a couple months of thought time but now its finally coming to fruition!

A York is just too tall for our engine bay. The little Sanden is a wobble/piston/plate design (ingenious design IMO) that still puts out 8.5+cfm (!) @ 100psi (!) and is capable of 200psi output (!) but in a very compact form.

Did you see this write up on using the Sanden for OBA?

Nice mod that almost eliminates the need for a coalescing filter.

Jack told me you told him about the mod :). I already have the coalescing filter and a vapor filter installed on my Sanden OBAv1 that completely removes any trace of oil vapor. So far it has worked out perfectly. However for somebody setting up a new system it would certainly be worth the effort to try it out and save the coin.

Sanden OBAv2 UPDATE:

After a couple dozen different bracket prototypes I finally hit pay dirt this afternoon. There's just no margin for even a slight variance with the limited space available. But the bracket prototype is done.

Got a buddy that's going to spin a pulley next week and then on to bolt-up, belt length determination and then on to testing.

Please God: Don't allow anymore LC projects enter my subconscious/conscious for a while! :D

You are praying for less projects

but the rest of the 100 series forum is hoping you do even more:D Majority wins!

I also added Christo's new front bumper with a couple of my own touches ;). Although during our Death Valley run this past week no winching was needed I am very, very happy with the bumper especially the what seems to be MilSpec construction and overall rigidity!

Another add-on of recent: The FrontRunner Wind Cheetah rack. This was, again, the maiden trip for the rack. Nothing more than sand ladders and firewood adorned the rack apart of this trip. But super handy to quickly attach campfire wood in route. Love the rack (now that its installed ;)).

Are those Tundra wheels or Lexus and why did you swap out the originals?

With as much thought and engineering that you've put into to this one of a kind, drive to the end of the earth rig I'm curious as to why the swap out? I'm confident there's something we can all learn here.

Again, an incredible rig! I'll never have even a third of these mods but I spend hours reading about yours AND LEARNING!

Thank you for your compliments! This rig has been a 6-1/2 year project/obsession

I wanted a less wide tire than the 315mm width that is offered in 35" on 16" wheels so I upped to Tundra 18" wheels a few years ago to be able to run 285-75/18" tire size (35" diameter, 285mm width on 18" wheels).

For the type of trails I do its been the perfect size for me. They also allow me to run snow chains if needed due to the increased clearance between the steering knuckle and the tire; these have come in handy on more than one occasion. I also run 10mm spacers up front to help get back a little of the lost track width with the raised suspension.

The Stoptech Big Brake Kit I recently installed also requires 18" wheels. Maybe I had the only 100 with deficient brakes but HOLY WOW what a difference with the Stoptech kit! The only thing I'm a little upset about: I should have installed them sooner!

Well spressomon you just helped me finally solidify my decision on 16" vs 18". I've been kicking around for a long time whether to go with 315/75R16 or 285/75R18. The fact that the 18" tire will allow me to use chains and the fact I can upgrade to larger brakes make that a pretty easy decision. The only downside I can see is the cost. The 18" tire is WAY more expensive (almost $100 per tire). That's unfortunate, but the price we pay to play. :D

Could you post what brand/model/etc chains you use with your 285/75R18 tires?

Anthony, ideally I'd like the ability to use heavier duty chains but there isn't enough clearance for the big HD chains.

Having said that I bought mine from Les Schwab. They're Quick Fit Diamond pattern chains. Very similar to RUD chains (RUD doesn't offer 35" chains). They feature square links for a little better grip than round links. I think the links are 5.5mm diameter. I bought them years ago when I had the 315/75 16" tires and they fit the 285/75 18" perfectly. I recommend carrying a couple extra rubber connectors just in case...

I did break one a couple years ago when we were in bumper deep snow and I was hors'n them pretty good with the skinny pedal (not surprised I broke a link)...and they swapped me a brand new set at no charge.

And, although this wasn't a feature I would have used, if you buy them now and don't end up using them Les Schwab will refund 100% of your money if you return them after the last day chains/studs are allowed in the spring.
