Thanks for the info. I thought I read that this one worked.
If nothing else, the knob gets hard to turn as the spring gets toward full compression. The OEM Tools one makes it quick work with a 3/8 ratchet, and the side prongs are offset so that the compressor sits straight on top of the spring.

This one works. I pulled out the spare F head and did an exhaust and intake. No issues

@majdomo. I had to get the auto zone unit. The one I have does not work on the 2f. Also the rope method did not work for me as it does not hold the valve tight enough so used air. I tried several kinds of rope and all allowed approx 1/8” of movement which makes it a struggle with these spring tools. Thanks for the info! I only got one cylinder done today, but the rest should go pretty good.

All good!! Glad you got a procedure down. Shop air is much faster, the slowest part for me was usually stuffing the cylinder full of rope and trying to shove more in when it was almost full.

EDIT - this is a b*tchin' truck, have a soft spot for patina rigs :flipoff2:

#1 cylinder intake valve is leaking a good amount of oil into the cylinder. This seems about right for this truck I have had to do everything twice. Anyone else had a new seal leak?

Can the seals be installed too far on guide and become distorted?

I used the straw method and lubed before install.

Yes new parts can be bad - when injecting the rubber a seam line could form that is a weak spot for it to fail when stretched, can be very hard to see by a visual inspection. Install, easy enough to tear a lip, start it on crooked, perhaps pound it on too far and distort the seal ring...

When you redo it make sure the valve stem in the working area is good.

Replaced the two bad seals. One was not straight and the other torn where seal is attached to metal. I put it back together and will run it for a while. I installed a few old seals on the spare head. One is all the way seated and the other to toyota spec. For spec u don't put them on very far. They don't seem re useable once you put them on too far so ordered a new set so I can go back through them if needed.

I’ll be referring to this post at a point in my future.
Thank you for filling in the potholes.

Kenosha has a big labor day weekend car show. I put a for-sale sign on and had some interest. I ended up selling truck locally. Might be tough seeing it around town lol. That is the new owner test driving truck a few weeks back and then leaving today.
