I'm going to miss this this year. Recovering from hip surgery. But this was a blast last year (edit; 2019). I'd opt for the Courtyard Marriot again. It's 30 minutes away and you'll get a better night sleep and can show up in the morning with dunkin donoughts and coffee.

Maybe someone can work on a better trail map of this place. Our group spent most of the time lost and trying to figure out which way to turn.

@g-man were you using Maprika with the Black Goat map? That’s the official map and app for the event. It does have som blues that are now blacks and blacks that are now reds. We do need to make a new map but we have not spent enough time there to compose a map.

Not to mention a clean bathroom facility!

Hope you mend well and quickly! 👍

@MyLandy are you asking how much storage room you will need or how much cellular data it will use?
It uses no cellular data just GPS.
See @76FJ40 for size of Maprika

Make sure you download “Cove map by BGORC”

Thanks! How much cellular data does Maprika use given this limited area? We've already downloaded the BGORC map so that download doesn't apply.

Like @Jakes40 said, it doesn’t use/require cellular data once the map has been downloaded. It only needs the GPS function of your phone.

I use a Samsung tablet that has no cellular just GPS.

I wasn't using anything. Our trail leader had some kind of gps but it was sketchy at best. Seems like every intersection we had to have a group discussion on which way to turn. We finally found the "back road". So there is a series of trails that leads off the campground site over a hill and down and across a creek. Then up the hill opposite the other side and we took a right and followed this back road until we got to the firing range. Kind of scary driving across the back of the rifle range. Then once past that range another right takes you back out to the main gravel road near a large pond at the front of the campground entrance.

I'd be happy with a laminated sheet like they give you at Rousch Creek.

Yeah, coming down on the rifle range gave me pause last year, especially because it dumped me out into the parking lot who's exit was was locked (dummy locked, thank god).

The thing to understand and accept is that the park doesn’t offer a map of their own. They literally haven’t mapped it. The Maprika map mentioned is the best resource and has been updated over time. Some of the color ratings might still be off but hopefully all the trail leaders will be aware of any map:reality issues.

I just downloaded an updated version. And there have been some updates.
You have to remember The Cove is not an off-road park it is a camp ground (used loosely) with off road trails. It doesn’t help there are little to no signage.
We gave out laminated maps last year. Sorry you had such a hard time of it last year. We are slowly getting our s*** together. CLCC has only been hosting Fall Crawl for 3 years.

The fact that the campground doesn't have a good map combined with the fact that there was little personal knowledge of the trails among our group, and I assume mostly everyone at the event, made it challenging. But all in all had lots of fun and will plan on attending next year. Looks like the weather will be great for you guys this year. I am jealous.

you guys need to get better at paying attention. I hardly ever use a map and just know what direction I am heading. creeks lead to streams, streams lead to rivers, rivers lead to towns. All roads lead to Rome. that sort of thing...ha! It takes patience, it is fun to freestyle some times and see where it leads you. There is an upper 'road' and a lower road. many trails in between. I look forward to wandering around again this weekend!
