This weekend I installed an engine bay LED light kit from oddironoffroad.com STORE. Quality kit and the installation is straight forward.

I first started by pulling the hood. This is not necessary but I wanted to replace the nasty hoodliner and clean all the oily gunk off the underside of the hood.

I mounted the pair of lights toward the upper end of the hood. In retrospect I found that the lights should be mounted about 1/2 way down the hood for better light distribution into the engine bay. At some point I'll move them. Instead of using the provided self-tapping screws I used M4 nut serts.

Wiring was routed through one of the diagonal ribs to the back of the hood.

New hood liner installed the loose wiring is covered and protected.

A tilt switch is part of the kit and activates the lights with the opening of the hood. An on-off switch is also part of the kit that allows the lights to be turned off. I mounted the tilt switch in a spot where it would not contact any engine bay components when the hood is closed.

Engine bay lighting. The LEDs well illuminate the engine bay. As previously stated I need to move the lights down the hood to about the mid-point to have this good of coverage throughout the engine bay. I did some visual checking and the lights can be mounted on the lateral raised ribs without contacting any engine components when the hood is lowered but they must be mounted forward of the hood spring area.

Damn that is nice... I wonder if you could just make up some shims that would angle the light more inward instead of completely moving them?
How much did the new hood liner set you back? Mine is destroyed from when the PO has the steering pump belt let loose and ripped up the liner.

Hood line $$ don't remember exactly. Something over $200 and also purchased new clips for attachment.

and it looks well worth it...I wanna say I saw 235 in the last couple weeks- bet Beno could do cheaper...man, it are a sexy liner, if I ever did seen one...

and you'll never see it at night!

I think I spent ca. $250 for hood liner and clips and went local because shipping would have been $$. The hood liner weighs almost nothing but it's a large awkward size.

Assuming the headliner is OEM? Love the lights. It's now on my list.

Jim, Thanks for the kind words. Glad you are happy with the product.

Nice. Do you think it would be worthwhile to have a shim under the lights so it angles them straight down when the hood is open?

I don't know. The lights have a wide dispersal pattern and aiming with shims may not be needed. I'm going to re-position the lights for better lighting throughout the engine bay first.

Anyone have a part # for the hood liner?

I'm doing the light kit it looks awesome, no reason not to do the liner at the same time.

Placing the lights as far forward as possible on the hood provides excellent coverage with very few shadows in the engine bay.

This is a must. I can't even begin to count the amount of time I had to use a headlamp or balance a flashlight on the fender..

Serious want. I guess this would work on any vehicle, right? Makes for a great gift idea :hmm:

Did some looking around on the underside of the hood tonight and I think this is the better place for lights than where I have them. There is an angled inner lip that runs along the forward edge of the hood that appears to provide a better placement for the lights to yield full coverage of the engine bay.
