So, I accidentally drove to work today with the choke pulled :bang:. Maybe it's not that big of a deal... or maybe it is. I have no idea. Is there any immediate maintenance I should do or plan on doing soon? Suggestions? Am I the only idiot who's ever done this?

Yeah non-issue as basically it just closes the choke plate to allow a richer fuel/air mixture so the truck will be able to run. I have done it before in a rush when it has been seriously cold out and I was running late.

If you have an unmolested carburetor, pulling the choke knob when the engine is warm only acts as a throttle positioner. The Choke Opener system automatically deactivates the choke when the engine is warm.

And if it is molested or that part is dead and does not kick the choke off.
Faster idle, worse fuel economy and long term doing this carbon buildup.

Long term could months or years.

This.

if your cruiser is operating as it should, its a non issue.

I once let a friend borrow my 60 for a week, when he returned it the choke was still out from when we loaded him up in the driveway, 6 days and about 500 miles later...

The biggest hassle is valet parking attendants who have never seen a manual choke trying to start when the weather is cold.
I had to leave a sign attached to the steering wheel, in English and Spanish, explaining how to start my 60.

Ok, I've got to ask. Where on earth in your part of northern New Mexico/southern Colorado do you find valet parking?

The only time I've had to let someone else park my '84 FJ60 was when I went on a company-paid trip for some training in Aspen, CO. I took the family along, and we did some mountain biking near Gunnison on the way up. The training (and hotel room) was at the Ritz-Carlton. The valet attendants looked like they were caught a little off guard - they patiently waited while I pulled all four mountain bikes off the Yakima roof rack before they could drive off to park it. I guess they were more used to Cadillacs and BMWs, not FJ60s. I didn't mention to them that our Southern Nevada Land Cruiser CB handle was "Cadillac", given to us after we pulled into the parking lot at our first club meeting, and the question from one of the long-time members - "Who's driving the Cadillac?"

One of the best parts of our stay was watching our two young sons poolside in their hotel-provided white bathrobes hobnobbing with the older well-off guests.

In the old days, the recommendation was to change your oil after an extensive run with the choke
pulled. I don't know how much validity there was to it, but the idea was to get the unburned
fuel and extra pollutants out of the crankcase.
I can't imagine there'd be enough washdown
to matter, but the extra soot and stuff- maybe?
Or just a good, stiff climb up a long steep hill...

Would you mind explaining? I'm actually installing a trollhole carb very soon.

On the Aisin carb, even with the choke knob pulled-the choke is disabled once you start driving and the knob is just a high idle switch at that point.

With the trollhole the choke never disables and you'll actually limit air into the motor the entire time and possibly damage something. Of course you'll notice this because the truck won't move happily once it's at temp with the choke engaged.

It's a non issue really, but it doesn't have the "auto choke lockout" that the Aisin does.
