hey guys, planning to do a bit of camping/ snowboarding for four days, leaving tomorrow night from when i write this.

Went to replace all four shocks as they were pretty tired, ended up shearing off the bolt from the leaf spring plate on the passenger side. tried it all to get the bolt out, didn't want to tap or helicoil or anything so i bought superior engineering's high clearance replacements (Superior part no in case anyone is curious, LCRUBLTPLTGEN1-V2). Had a couple dramas installing them, until i realised you need to take the U shaped bracket that sit atop the leaf spring between the axle housing and the spring. got it on no dramas, chopped the long u-bolts down, torqued up etc. Next problem, the shock absorber mount was too big for my new shocks bushings, so I used one of those cone shaped drill bits to bore out the centre of the bush so it would fit over the mount, tight fit didn't ruin the bush. Next problem, superior advertises that you use the old bolt to mount the shock, old bolt size does not fit, nowhere near. can I drive with one rear shock if i can not source that bolt tomorrow before i leave.

TLDR; replacing shocks, sheared mounting bolt, new plate - shock mount bolt doesn't fit, can I drive on one rear shock until I can source a bolt.

hopefully dealership can get this for you asap. These are the part numbers I used.

90948-03007 washer, shock absorber cushion
91611-61020 bolt

Shocks are over-rated. You'll be fine without one until you get it sorted out.

that's the thing, I tried to thread the old bolt in from the factory bottom plates, into the new one and it is nowhere near the correct size, the bolt just drops in and has room to move side to side. going to try to source a bolt that fits tomorrow.

Run it. I've been driving without the rear passenger side for months and a few thousand miles over all types of road and terrain.

Haven't died, lost control, or otherwise experienced any overly adverse effects of missing that one shock. I do plan to replace in the near future.

yeah sweet, done a little drive without it when i first snapped the bolt, didn't even notice. good to hear some re-assurance that it doesn't make a huge difference on long trips etc.

I'd say you're fine as well. I see you're in Oz, but over here in the US we have 4Plus Products who make a great u-bolt flip plate, which of course comes with it's own shock mount stud. I run them on all four corners after cracking a lower spring plate in the rear. These things are VERY beefy, much thicker than the 1/8" stock plates with the tack welded stud. May be they will ship to you for a long term solution. They're kind of pricey, but then you never have to worry about it again.

I have some install pics here.

Flipped ones would be cool, but unfortunately in Australia I have a feeling they would be illegal and get defected, same with leaf over axle etc. can’t change much over here. These are the ones I bought definitely way beefier than the ones that come off not too worried about breaking em

Do you have a link for these spring plates?

you’ve got something leaking on your tires. i’d be more worried about a brake leak than a bad shock. or was it the shock oil on the tire?
