My dog’s best friend Maytal is dying. She has throat cancer.

They have been two peas in a pod since 2022.

She was the first dog my dog Turk met at 6 weeks.

And now she will die soon: Probably 6-8 weeks. The cancer has been deemed aggressive.

And I wonder if dogs feel loss? I don’t know.

Does my dog know that his best friend in the whole wide world (of course my “explanation”) is going to die and he will never see his friend again? They have literally done every awesome dog thing together for the last two years…

But my dog has learned so much from this incredible, super ugly, but utterly perfect old dog….

How does the logic of friendship and love equate in the dog world? I don’t know.

So lucky. Such purity in the experience.

So sad with Maytal, brother/kardesh Beno...
She is such a lovely creature!

PS. Is she a Boxer?

This one thinks it fun to find a mud puddle and just splashes around. A friend told me to send this last picture to Wilson… “only retrieves the best”

No doubt in my mind they know. Kim took black lab to vet day before yesterday after she got bit by raccoon night before (all is good). She said it was quite the homecoming between her sister (not biological) when she brought Sadie home after a day.

Daisy’s last day with us we let her friend (large Great Pyrenees) from across the road come into the house just before picture was taken. They literally touched noses a couple times and after we didn’t return home with her Mousa stayed at our house for several days looking for her. There was an absence of exuberance just what seemed to be love between the two. Super sad stuff.

I think many underestimate the depth of emotions animals have.

Gypsy who was my son’s dog we rescued from him after he couldn’t provide for her moped around and didn’t eat after he stayed home for two days over thanksgiving. He had to keep her in a crate far more than we could allow due to his schedule and was fed on erratic basis due to his schedule and lack of maturity. But he was the one who rescued her from the pound and it’s clear that she has a ton of affection for him despite what we are able to offer that he couldn’t.

Was cooking dinner and watching Rocky Kanaka latest video where Tanzy is abandoned at the back door of a rescue when the doorbell rang.

After restraining the dogs, I saw it was a very small child at our door clutching something in her hand. I thought it might be some kind of fundraiser, but it was this:

It's as if Charley has gained a following in the neighborhood.

Finally got Cal re-installed in the 40. Needs a step to get in now but it certainly is his happy place. My granddaughter and I made him some pumpkin dog biscuits this afternoon from Kent Rollins recipe so he’s feeling pretty good.
