Am I getting ripped off by the DMV $385 a year for a 91 LC ?
Oh, I’m in California.

Yes, I am in Orange County, 91 LC and am paying $ 93.00 this year. What up with that price:rolleyes:

What did you tell them you paid for it?

M

I live in one of the most expensive states in the US, & I payed $157.20 for my 97 this year.

I paid $525 the first time I registered it, that had KS sales tax included though. The second time was $100, I have a 1994.

ouch, I pay $28.00 for my 93 and $30 for my 97 a year...

maybe thats why all your Californians are moving to Colorado....:D

It must be because I just registered it, bill of sale was $3000

I registered it last year but the DMV screwed up and I actually
got arrested because of it, USFS agent thought I was stolen
F-ing prick.

Yep, you just paid the use tax. Next year it will be lower.

$232.50 sales tax and the balance of $152.50 for the registration fee.

Isn't that the truth. We are really nailed with new vehicles. My 1994 was only $35, My 2001 Sequoia is $600.

I had that problem years ago when I bought a 40. The tax office assesed the value for what I paid for it and not the blue book value. I had to go down to the office and was told to go to several offices befor I got it resolved. I had to sit there with the guy while he looked it up in his book. Once he saw the book value he lowed the tax for me. I think I got lucky on that one.

is CA by weight or value? FL is by weight and GA by value

CA is by value.

I happy at $48 for 2 years, any value vehicle

Yeah, like others said it is by value. I had a value of 9,400 for my 96' and all of my fees and the taxes were $733.
Here is the DMV registration calculator link that actually told me that it would be $845. Punch in your info and check it out. My sis works for the DMV so she told me about this calculator.

Michigan charges license fees based on original purchase price. What fun every year watching them scan higher and higher, then inform me they need to look somewhere else for cars over $50,000. $159 for the 80, $152 for the '96 BMW, $132 for the '90 Audi 200qa with 250k. What a ripoff!

Okay, I will quit my fussin' about the registration taxes in Texas. I have been paying $51.80 per vehicle for quite a while--no matter what year model or type. Of course, my newest vehicle is a '94, so it might be different for newer vehicles.
