And, I have a new favorite bumper! Well done benc.

A bit off topic but completely related: Are you planing on making the trek to hundreds in the hills at all? I bet you would get at least another 10 or so sold! I am and leaving from Nipomo (near Pismo Beach).

As much as I would love to, It's probably not going to happen this year. The kids school make it difficult and they get upset if they can't go. But if your going you can advertise for me. :)

A couple pics after bath and some from behind so you can see the winch clearances. As you can see, there is room to spare.

Well, they always try to accommodate the event with school start so kids won't miss it or miss as little as possible!
I guess I gotta come up north for some wheeling too, central coast is a nice place to live but it sucks ass when it comes to 4x4 terrain! Other then the Oceano dunes there's nothing. I love the beach but do NOT like getting sand everywhere in my trucks! Everything else is a drive so there's no quick get-way.
Bumper is looking great! Post some pics when you test it on the 06 please.

Thanks for sharing all the progress pictures, it is a pleasure to watch the development of your project and our future bumpers.

There are two things that have been mentioned a bit already that I would like to comment on as well:

1) Seeing the current state pictures of the bumper makes me a BIG fan of having the grill guard being a bolt on affair. It looks great both ways and I may just want to change things up once in a while by installing/removing it.

2) Please seriously consider making a rear bumper. I have looked quite closely at the handful of photos you have provided and compared it to other bumpers available for the 100 series, both assembled and DIY versions. In my opinion you have the perfect combination of function and form.

For what it's worth...

Looks fantastic!
Can you get some measurements for the max length light bar at this location:

And the maximum square measurement you can get at this location?

And the length between these two points. Looks like a good place for me to mount my state required license tag.

This bumper really looks like I what I was hoping for, well done!

I concur. Do you plan on making a rear bumper?
If so, a couple of personal suggestions:
  1. Keep the spare tire carrier as close to the rear hatch as possible with out hitting.
  2. Keep the spare closest to being behind the drivers side, not the passenger side. I feel that the right rear quarter view is far more important than the view directly behind the driver. Yes I realize that may require a left hand swing-out or a lot of weight cantilevered on the end of a right hand swing-out.
  3. Do something for the Hi-Lift other than an angle mount on the back hidden behind the spare. I hate that look. Try horizontal along the bottom of the spare, just above the bumper, or vertical next to one of the "D" pillars.
  4. Have the swing-out be modular so a ladder, jerry cans, Hi-Lift, antenna, or what ever can be bolted on.
  5. And of course, a good departure angle with a 2" hitch receiver.
Just some of my personal thoughts.

I've been meaning to ask, what brand/size winches will this bumper accommodate?
Are the large cut-outs in the front for running the winch? Or can it be accessed from above?

I may need to shrink the holes a bit to accommodate the license plate. There will be no winch access on the top since most guys these days run a light bar and top access would be covered. The bumper should accommodate any non integrated 12 k winch but you may need to build a bracket for the control box. Mine is a smittybilt 12k x2o and fit perfect with room to spare. The lager holes it the front of the bumper make it very easy to access the winch and the bolts for the grill guard and light bar. Something to consider for those who do not like the look. Here is some pics with a tape and the grill guard brackets.

Thanks Nate for bringing your 06! I was not able to test fit but I got all the measurements I need. The only difference is the lower grill support does not allow the bumper to slide underneath the grill like mine does.

.
The only solution I can see with out cutting is to cut the top of the bumper to the exact shape of the grill and it be flush.

I really like this look! Are you planing to change it for this version? You mentioned something about the riser sliding in place…
I have to go back and read it again.

I'm most likely doing this with those cheap LEDs (or some better quality ones) but I think it would look pretty cool and help the turn signal that could be blocked by the guard tubing depending on the angle you look at it.
As for damage on the trail, figure I just buy some extras and have them on the shelf for when it happens! :meh:

Bummer. Are you going to be able to cut the top for those with 06s?

After checking it out today, I think everyone is going to be really happy. Ben knows his stuff.

Yes I will have to change to accommodate those who want no grill guard. I may be able to somewhat keep that look so I'll keep you posted. Yeah, I think something like that would look good for the blinkers.
