Discriminating Against Pre 95 80's

Come on Lane, its all in good fun. But tell the truth now, if you had a 96/97 LC set up just the way your current one is set up, would you trade it straight across if the offer presented itself.

What I am trying to say is that I have NEVER heard of a 96/97 owner saying they wish they had a pre-95. Where as its not the case the other way around.

:hhmm:

No.

All in good fun indeed LOL ;)

Fact is we love our 80's. The OG poster should purchase one he will drive and enjoy, mod or not.

Whether it be a 91 or 97, find a good one and build it to his/her dreams :D

That's what I'm saying, Joey. Just cause it's a 3FE doesn't mean it has no power. I pulled that loaded trailer just fine for 140 miles of freeway, elevation ranging from 4000-5000 feet, WITH 35's AND stock gears.

That being said, I realize the OP wants 95+. Honestly, if I had a family, I'd more than likely go for a 95+ for all the safety features and stuff.

But I would never trade my current 80 for it. :flipoff2:

Honestly I love the post 95 dash .. much more modern and easy to fit radio or whatever you want there ..

But .. love my 95 ( early model dash ) just due to my part time t-case :D

I bought a 94 new off the lot, owned a 97, and now own a 93.
I have to say for me, I like the 93,94 the best. For what I use the 80 for I don't care for airbags. Trannys on the 93,94 have been bulletproof.

*unrolling duct tape now for the heathen*

The big ass bus tranny rules as well as no airbags and no OBDII are all plus in my mind.

Everyone loves their own year, don't limit yourself. Just get a clean one with reasonably low miles and you can't go wrong.

i like the years with lockers! but i also like not having to ever do maintenance on electronics involved on post 92 models i.e. electronic transmission, ABS, airbags etc. I wanted to keep it simple so i went with a 92, and then later another 92 just due to availbility

I think year preference may depend alot on usage though, trail machines or highway haulers, simplicty or comfort...

I love my two 1992 FJ80's. Never had anything newer, If I have to choose between 1992 + and older, I'll go with an 1986 FJ60.:grinpimp:

All the years had lockers. As has been said, everybody likes the year they own. I happen to think my '91 is pretty nice... Lockers, no electrics in the engine or trans, opening centre diff, Icebox centre console, power folding mirrors, factory tire carrier, 24 volt starter, turbo diesel...

I think Mr Tojo had it pretty close right from the get-go.

I would love the front and rear lockers, and a more powerful engine sometimes, but I love my old tractor engine, bus tranny, beat-up '91!

Something useful for the OP-

I just got back from a 140 mile round-trip to Ogden, all freeway, towing a trailer. Right now, my truck has the 3FE, factory 4.10's, and 35's. Loaded up, I managed an average speed of 70 MPH, and hit a max of 84 MPH (wasn't that hard, really). And got 10 MPG to boot. :D

Not bad, IMO.

OK, but how LONG did that 3FE take to to get all that weight going 70MPH and then some turning 35s with 4.10s?

Stay 95+ and you will be a lot happier.

Bull****. Pure unadulterated bull****.

The decesion depends on a lot more than the year model.
