From another post it sounds like you are changing out your rims. What ya gonna get?

Going back to either my old mags or possibly some faux beadlocks. Tired of the blance issues. It really sucks because these tires hook up so well at 8 psi :D

Just throwing some ideas out there. Not sure where the budget is right now and no firm offers on the beadlocks locally.

Clint

You're keeping the tires, just running other rims right? I liked your old mags. Maybe in the future you could run internal locks like stauns or www.innerairlock.com with your mags.

I like the looks of those Stuans and have for a while. Robs off-road in Clackamas hase them and they swear by them for guys running steelies with balance issues.

btw your innerairlock link es no worky worky

are you running hydro assist?

Not yet. I held off for two reasons. First was budget was shot after the Longs and second I figured I could get away with Saginaw or Ported stock pump. Right now I can't seem to work out the bugs on the Sagainaw pump and my newly rebuilt and ported stocker is already howling and puking fluid.

Plus yesterday my smog pump finally seized. Guess it is time to go smog free and work on the saginaw pump again!

Seriously what I really need to do is take a break from this thing , spend some time on vacation with the family, and enjoy not wrenching on it for a while!!

Yep, getting to the same point with mine. I think I'm going to have to go to detox to get myself to stop spending money on the damn thing. It's such an addiction.

Went wheeling with Dirtgypsy this week. Just some mellow stuff out at Brown's camp.

Maybe he'll post up some pics of his front shock hoops and rear shock mounts.

Ha ha, you got me Mike!

I have been lazy but have in the back of my mind been wanting to update the SOA. I have about 8 months on the SOA and am very happy with it. It wheels much better than the SUA ever did and it looks great. I feel more secure and stable in this rig than the SUA any day.

One area I will continue to address for at least one more step is the shock set up. I was running 10" shocks in the rear (and still am in the pics) through Rubicon but was afraid of bottoming. I ended up puting long bump stops in there to limit travel. I am pretty sure I would have wheeled a bit better through the Con' if I had some more flex. After discussing some things with Mike we jumped on it a few weeks back. I wanted 12" shocks in the back and so we welded up some extensions.

They are 3/16 and 1/4 plate with the stock shock studs cut and re-welded on the top. I will later drop the lower brackets and make some skids to be able to max out the 12" shocks.

Left rear:

Right rear:

They are heavily gusseted and thanks to Mikes killer upside down welds they are solid!

The other area I wanted to address was the front shock towers. Although Ford towers are a great and inexpensive way to get your shocks mounted up I never really like the set up and looks. After a rally session through baby doll heads at 45 mph I managed to rip off the drivers side tower. Found that I had some poor welds and never went back to clean them up. I dug and dug for some different options and found that 4xinnovations here on the board had some universal cut and weld your own shock hoops. I took some measurements and they were a perfect fit!

I had to offset the hoop on the drivers side to clear the steering box but I fits really well:

On the passenger side I was able to center it:

So that's it for updates. I have just been doing preventative maintenance and a fix on a FF axle seal. Still no trac bar though I have the brackets and the AAL's have settled very little. I may address the extra height later with some de-arched OME's but that will be much later!

I have some better pics at home. These were taken at work with the cheap digi cam plus the truck is dirty and blah blah blah.

Pics from the last work party. Sorry I couldn't help get that welder more dialed in. Think I'll bring over some scrap next time to play around more with it. I know it's more than capable. Anyways we worked on putting Dirtgypsy's sliders back on. Little by little I'm working on Clint to cut off those rockers. He's not budging but I did get him to cut the seam flange so we could suck up the sliders just a little closer.

Then he let me cut.

We hammered them flat. These cut outs are for clearing the slider legs.

Welding with gas doesn't produce as much sparks so he didn't even do the fire ant dance while welding upside down.

We trimmed up the pipe cap and made provisions for the fill plug. The half tube is welded from underneath and will be joined to the pipe cap. The gap will then be filled. Those pipe caps are BEEF!

I dig the smoke trails on this pic.

We also removed the rear bumper and had a grinder fest. We cut part of the corners out to change it and get it ready to add more body protection. We'll need some tubes bent so it will be off to brokenparts soon.

I posted up but the tubes are here in my driveway. 60 feet of it!

Thats a sweet pic! Sorry the rockers stay but I do promise to get rid of the snake blinders during paint this year! Thanks for posting those up. I hope finish the cap tomorrow.

I sourced mine from chicago here on the board. he lives in Nevada but with his discount and shipping it was still cheaper than buying locally.

I have this weekend off but Monster Jam and Valentines day it's shot. So I will double check but my next weekend day free is Sunday the 28th. Otherwise I am free during the weekdays every 3rd day. Not sure if that helps but my offer for eve work is still open as well.

I took advantage of the nice weather here in Portland today and worked on the truck for a bit. I started with the pipe cap mod and after doing some initial grinding I got side tracked when this showed up:

Nice Valentines gift from the wife and nice work from Wagongear for sure. So I deviated from my orginal work and got it installed.

348.jpg

I was able to empty out my 10 Gallon tote of recovery gear and put it in the tailgate! I still need to line the tailgate with something and am thinking that I will hit it with bedliner when I get to my rocker panels.

352.jpg

Along with the panel I got started on the Aussie windows from lynchmob. The crazy Aussie that had these before me had a love affair with sealer. There was clear, grey, white (looked like bathtub caulk) and a black tar goop all over the sealing edge. Also, needless to say, the weather stripping was shot. I found a place online that sells the double bead that is needed for these. The place is called Restoration Specialties and the guys there were super helpfull and had all the bits to rebuild these is stock.

I got prelim tear down and clean up started and hope to get a few hours in tomorrow as well.

353.jpg

Not much to show here but while I was at it I also installed some of Wagongear's rear hatch weather stripping/ pinch welting. All I can say is that this stuff is really nice and to me well worth the $60 investment. I can't wait to get the door set next.

That's it for today. Next week we will be bending some more tube.

Clint

Clint looking good, I also got a good Valentines day gift, an ARB full length roof rack, can't wait to install it.

That looks great! Funny, I got side tracked from what I was doing this week and cut out my rear tailgate too. Will you be at the meeting tomorrow night?

sweet! I really like the ARB stuff. Post up a pic when you get it installed. How'd the rear bumper fit?
