Ok, yes I already have a dual battery system but came across this slick unit from painless wireless

Painless Performance: Digital Power Manager OffRoad

PN 40120

No switch to flip, automatically switch on aux battery under load.

That's pretty much what I'm looking for!

Any reviews/experiences out there?

I've never owned Painless products, but they seem to have a good rep...

x2!

I've been going back and forth on doing a dual battery system... this looks to be about as simple as you can get!

Yeah I think I am going to have to try this out, I'm right at the point now were I just need the battery and the controller. If I get one in the next few weeks I will let you all know how it goes........hard to resist the price.

Does anyone know if this will isolate the auxillary battery from draining the main? As in a setup where the auxillary batter is a deep cycle unit to run a fridge, etc?

seems to me (no expert by any means) that if you didnt hook any accessories to the main there would be nothing to drain it so the switch would basically just keep the aux charged...again no expert here. If it works like that it would be sweet

What doesnt make sense is they make references to when your main goes dead which shouldnt happen because that kills a cranking battery after a couple few cycles....

Seems dual diehard platinums on this would be a top setup

this is actually really nice, I have used the simple boat switch method for years, but the way this is setup it seems to be basically the same thing but it takes the guesswork out of it. I would guess you just hook all of your accessories to the main battery and then simply hook up the aux batt to this unit and it takes care of the rest.

It's looks pretty straight forward, but so does this and it comes with the switch to jump the main if it dies for about $100...

Add a Battery - Blue Sea Systems

I'll be installing mine as soon as I can get the battery mounted.

If you have a winch or a heavy amp draw I would be careful with that its only rated for 120amps.

My other choice is this one ML-Series Remote Battery Switches (Magnetic Latch) - Blue Sea Systems its very simple like the Painless one and also has a switch to self jump if needed. This one is rated at 500amp continues and 2500amp cranking (10se)..

Slight hijack/
If your winch is hooked up to your main battery, then the isolator will never see that amperage right?
Hijack over/

And you're right Guppie it is smarter:rolleyes:

Isn't this essentially the same dual battery setup as the Painless kit?

JayCorp Technologies - Dual Battery Kit with Voltage Sensitive Relay

sounds a bit different? looks like the painless unit handles loads different from the description.....

Similar setups, but Painless has more horsepower at 280 amps capacity, and the Jay kit is 140 amps. I'm looking to put a basic dual battery setup in my 40. Just exploring options. Painless is looking good.
