Working the legs and spinning faster….

Components these days are kinda like mid sized sedans: no one's really making bad ones

Generally, but if you are planning to do all your own bike maintenance, the serviceability of the different components varies quite a bit.

Shimano bleeds are much easier to do consistently. Plus, mineral oil doesn't have a shelf life, you don't have to degass is, and it isn't corrosive. I've had the same big jug of shimano mineral oil for the last decade. I have a box full of all sorts of different sram bleed syringes and adapters and frustrating memories.

If you like the feel of the SRAM brakes (I am guessing you have big hands!), and you don't mind the extra steps for bleeding, nothing wrong with that at all.

Been traveling a bit, so this morning was my first ride since September 18th. Still in pretty good shape as I was 0.1 mph slower than my best speed on the 8.25 mile loop.

First 10 minutes my lungs and legs were saying basta, but once warmed up, I felt really good.

I had a physical recently, and when I mentioned my RHR (39) to the doc, she appeared mildly concerned. Even though she put me on an EKG and said it was excellent, and even after saying I have a hear beat of an elite athlete, she wants me to wear a monitor for a week. Mainly to check for pm rhythms.

I haven’t totally decided whether or not to crank out some spinning or another ride while wearing the monitor.

Don’t want to freak her out even more. 😃

Monitor on tomorrow, might go out Sunday.

It has been very pleasant, high-30s to low-40s at night and mid to high 70s during the day. It is the kind of weather where we turn on the heater for a bit in the morning and might use the AC in the late afternoon. It was +80F yesterday. I have never been to Quincy, but likely similar weather? LMK if you make it south, we could ride or have a beer.

Thanks for the intel. Probably not making it to Tahoe this go around, but do have a Rubicon trip planned for next year and will be in Truckee and Tahoe for about 10-15 days or so.

Extremely sympathetic to what happened in Western NC with Helene and don't mean to minimize it, but even the modest winds and healthy rain we got here in central NC wreaked havoc on some of my favorite routes. The trail around a small lake near me was ravaged (and is closed), and I went out to the American Tobacco Trail this morning to find this:

Still managed to get some miles in (and get beat up a bit on my fully rigid bike as the open part of the trail has plenty of erosion), and explored some offshoot trails.:frown:

So Beno, what light do you have on the front? I've been a big NiteRider fan for years, but am looking to upgrade.

I believe the folks who started it were automotive lighting engineers initially.
