Correction Steve. We're coming up on 6 years for the build. :D
And it will be rolling and tagged before then. Thbbbt.

Are we taking bets?
Very nice, you might just make your deadline... Daisy

I hope Mike and Steve are not too disappointed. Next week I'll visit the insurance company, then it's off to MVD to get the truck registered and order my vanity tag. Anybody want to help plan a birthday party?

Gotta plate on it yet?

Will this do?

Looks good Jon!

Also, not to be an idiot, but how about a translation for "TOROTE"?

I love how right near the end of a build it really starts rolling! mine went this way too. the problem is, as you get more motivated and work faster, the $ end piles up faster too!:crybaby:

sweet Jon, looking forward to you driving that thing soon.:steer:

It's a Baja thing. They are a group of plants known as elephant trees. I actually had several options for Baja plants with seven or fewer letters. Copal was another, along with cirio (local name for the boojum tree).

Most torote are in the genus Bursera (torote colorado, torote prieto), but one is a Pachycormus (torote blanco). Bursera is in the same family as the Bibilical plants frankincens (Boswellia) and myrrh (Commiphora). The frankincens plant, Boswellia sacra, is a protected plant in the Middle East. The other common name for elephant tree is copal, and refers to the plant's use as incense in the same way as the Old World plants. Personally, I don't like the smell.

In this case Google is not really your friend. Here are a few sites:

Elephant Tree, Copalquín, Torote Blanco
Elephant Tree, Torote Colorado, Copal
Torote Prieto, Copal

My plastic is taking a big hit this month. Next to the engine, this is probably the second largest single expense on the project.

Interesting that you chose to run a cat. Not at all required for a 1969 frame.

Several reasons.

1. I don't think modern cats suffer engine performance.
2. They do work as a muffler.
3. I hate stinky tail pipes, especially when I'm behind it.
4. I have some green in me.
5. It's the responsible thing to do.

Planning Ahead

The body should be ready for pickup next week. I will need about four guys to help get the body off the trailer and onto the frame. Would anybody be available the weekend of July 18/19 to help?

john that t-case is too dirty for the rest of the rig, you better pull it and soda blast it. :-)

I'm not going to lie. I was tempted to offer to take the plate off the back of the T-case to powder coat it with the other stuff... Bling bling!

wasn't it you who talked about not even painting the tub since it is a trail rig?

I'm not painting the tub ... somebody else is. :grinpimp:

I thought about getting a die grinder with some sort of wheel and at least polishing the t-case.

I had the same idea. Blue to match the engine?

I've got a blue or two. Not sure how well they match the engine, but they'd be close....

If I had a spare split case panel like that I'd powder it blue just to try it out. I don't know if anyone has one lying around or not, but if someone's got a spare, then it might be worth a shot. :grinpimp:

Agreed on all points.

I should be able to help. Sunday is probably better for me, but I may be able to get there Saturday instead.

I helped pull it off. The least I can do is get it back on again. The engine looks great in the frame.

Right now it's looking like 1pm Saturday, with Sunday as a possibility.

Also, Da'40 is insured, registered and, yes Dan, it does have a plate.

I'm out for the weekend. But I'll be around the next week if you need a hand with odds and ends after the tub is on.

Like we talked about on the phone, I'll be there mid-morning to drop off some more shiny bits...
