Rear axle done. After the paint dries I'll install the brake lines and calipers.

I talked with Kaehr today. The body should be done tomorrow. I will pick up Wednesday morning and deliver to R and C Bodyworks for primer and maybe paint. From there it goes to Smith's Ultimate Lining for undercoat and a spray-in bedliner.

The frame should be ready for pickup on Thursday. I'm going to talk to the boss and see if I can get off at noon so I can get it home and get the axles under it. I'm working Friday (holiday) and the weekend, straight through to Tuesday. I will be back at it on Wednesday.

Would anybody be available Wednesday - Sunday (edit: July 8-12) to help me set the engine back in the frame? It shouldn't take long.

You have a PM.

I happen to be available Wednesday-Friday of next week. I'm game.

The axle looks awesome!

Count me as a maybe for the weekend, I should have my honey-do list done by then!

Daisy

I don't have "honey-do" list ... just "dude lists." :grinpimp:

Is the fridge stocked or does it have food in it? :grinpimp:

That's funny. I was out of tasty drinks at the house today. So I drove up to the shop and brought some back home.

BTW Jon: I'll plan on being there Wednesday morning with the hoist. I might not even need help loading it up.

Thanks. That will get the bonfire under my buns to get the axles under the frame.

I'll pick the body up this morning and will deliver to Bodyworks. The frame might also be done, but I'll pick it up at noon tomorrow. This .gov employee is going to take the afternoon off to set the axles and springs under the rails.

I would love to be there (I've had so much fun tearing it down and I would love to help build it), but my schedule won't allow it this time.

Have fun, and like I've mentioned before - can't wait to see it ON THE TRAIL!

I dropped off the tub at Bodyworks. We chatted about the work, and decided to call over Dave from Smith's Ultimate Lining for a three way meeting to get his input so we were all on the same page. The plan is ...

  • Bodyworks is going to do some minor body work, mostly body filler on my welds and tube seal the seams. They will then primer the outside of the tub.
  • The tub will then be delivered to Smith's to be sprayed inside the tub, and underneath.
  • The tub will then be returned to Bodyworks where they will SPRAY MY PAINT!
Time line is a bit long, but acceptable. Scott at Bodyworks thought the body work and primer will take until next Wednesday, maybe quicker. Smith's said two days on their end. If everything goes well I should have the tub back in two weeks.

I will receive the tub back turn-key and ready to install. I have taken great pride in doing as much of the work myself. The decision to let Bodyworks finish the paint was not an easy one, but it was the most efficient decision. I wanted to say I painted the whole truck. But at this time I just want to drive the dang thing.

The frame was getting sand blasted when I picked up the body. It will probably get powder today and will be ready for pick-up tomorrow. By the time I get the tub back the frame will be a rolling chassis with an installed engine, bumpers, taillight harness, fuel system, etc.

I want to be there for the first scratch..

oh, now that's a thing of beauty! congrats!!!!

You work fast! Looks fantastic!

The hoist is loaded in my truck already, ready for me to get home Wednesday morning. I'll plan on getting over there as quick as I can, but if I can't make it back to ABQ Tuesday night, it will be around 10-noon or so on Wednesday.

Are you getting pumped yet?

Dan

Oh, ya.

I do have one problem. I wasn't paying attention when they loaded the frame on the trailer, and they loaded it backwards. I have the front of the frame at the garage door. I will need to flip it somehow. Yuck.

I work the next five days, so progress will be slow until Wednesday. Then I'm ready to rock.

Not a problem. I've spun our 40 just by lifting up on the frame and spinning it. As light as it is, I'd bet two of us could easily spin it around.

Flippin' fantastic looking.
