Sequence n. the following of one thing after another in logical order.

I can't believe I'm real close to tearing Da'40 apart. Now I'm having trouble with the "logical order" to put her back together. Do I paint the body first, or have the frame done first? In order to assemble I need the frame on springs and wheels, with the engine and tranny between the rails. But I don't want to paint the body with all that junk in the garage. I would rather paint the body with the frame out of the garage ... with the axles, wheels, springs, engine/tranny/tc stacked in a corner. I will want the room to work the painting.

Note that my time line to have the body back ready for paint is July 8th.
How are folks weekends looking for the next month? I know there is a camping trip planned for June 20-21. Who would be available the following weekend, June 27-28? Note that this weekend will be BYOT, and I'll provide lunch. Assembly would be July 18-19.

- remove body and get to the shop for blasting, primer, and undercoating.
- while body is at the shop, finish welding on frame and disassemble.
- when body comes home take the frame to get powder coated.
- paint body.
- when frame comes home start assembly.
Thoughts?

Sheesh. We missed another anniversary. This thread has been going for over 26 months.
I should be able to help June 27 & 28. I'll pencil it in on the calendar and let you know for sure as we get closer.
I'm not even going to hazard a guess on the sequence.

Friday. After work I made three stops. Stop one was Kaehr Plating to pick up the old-school door latches. Stop two was Metal Mart for some steel for the seat frame. Stop three was Tri-Gas for welding wire.
Saturday. Remove the rear bumper and finish welding. I needed to add an antenna mount, and do some misc welding. Remove the sliders. The sliders and the bumper are in the 4Runner for a trip to Kaehr on Monday after work for black powder. The body had a bunch of extra holes in it care of previous owners. Most of those holes are now welded closed. At the meeting I made arrangements to borrow Larry's trailer on June 27th.
Sunday. I had another idea in my sleep last night for a modification to the steering wheel mount that will make it easier to install the column (studs vs. bolts). Done. Worked on the seat frame for most of the day. I needed to both lower the seat frame, and shorten the length so it clears the drivers door. Install door latch hardware on all four doors (two new latches from CCOT on the full doors, and two old latches, cleaned up, on the half doors).

More baby steps.
Disassembly has begun. After removing the steering column and the parking brake I was able to remove the cowl harness. The wires that ran under the dash were tidied up and bundled. After several test fits I think this works.
Is there anybody not going on the camping trip that can give me a hand on Sunday, June 21st? I would like to finish removing the bits attached to the body (brake and clutch hydraulics) and put the body on a trailer. I'm guessing I'll need the help of three guys.

I'm planning on going on the camping trip (I think--I'm afraid that all of my sleeping bags are scattered between Montana and Africa at the moment though), but I'll happily bring you the engine hoist. Use it at long as you need. I might need help loading it into the truck though. I should be home Tuesday night, any time after that I can get it to your place. I have no doubt I'll be making at least one trip into town next week.
I'll inventory my camping stuff when I get home. I just realized that I lent out a few sleeping bags and my stove recently, so I'm really not sure if I'll be going camping or not just yet.

Crap, that is Father's Day. I would suggest removing the body on Saturday, but I'm tied up at work in the morning and I still have a few loose ends. If I move this project to Saturday afternoon would it make things easier for folks?

Just so you know ... the body is ready to pull. I talked with Kaehr today and they are willing to do the blasting. I'm still planning to deliver the tub to them on Monday ... a WEEK ahead of schedule.
Just thought I would keep you, um, informed, in case you really did start a pool.
