Very nice Jon! I want to know how much it weighs. I'm going with at least 35 pounds. I don't think the picture converys just how beefy that thing is. Maybe you could bring it on Saturday for show and tell? What the hell, get it installed and just bring the 40 over!

Wise guy. I'm guessing more than 35 pounds. I'll check. Maybe when I do my axle repair I can get help holding it up for a few bolts to see if it clears the H55F and parking brake.

I have some other iron I'm bringing to the meeting. What's a little more.

I figured that Mike is probably getting twitchy for an update ... so here ya go.

Friday I worked on getting the steering column mount resolved. I think I have it figured out. It's not as slick as I would like, but it's hidden behind the dash so it really doesn't matter as long as the column is secure. I hope to finish the welding this weekend.

Painting has been slow. The rainy weather has slowed me down some what, but I was able to spray Sunday and Monday. I can only paint a few parts at a time. At least I can get Da'40 out of the garage to make more room. Doors are about done. Windshield frame is about done. I hope to give them a final wet sanding and paint this weekend. Then I can start putting the doors back together (windows, window felts, door seals, wings, door handles, locks). I also need to get glass for the windshield.

I talked with diesel Dan and he is going to powder coat a few small parts for me. Rather than send them to The Paint Shop/Kaehr I figured I'd keep my money in the club. These were a bunch of small bits that would probably annoy Kaehr, and I didn't want to risk them getting lost.

I also had a request from a MUDDER to make another smog pump replacement idler. I had the material to make three so if somebody needs one let me know.

On Sunday one of my neighbors covertly took pictures of Da'40 in the driveway. I don't think he saw me watching. :whoops: Screw him.

You forgot to mention that your skid plate fits beautifully.

Your bumpstops look awesome cleaned up!

What, is it illegal to have a non-registered vehicle outside for any period of time? I'm guessing it would be while you were painting or otherwise working and needed the space inside? Screw him indeed.

Dan

Dan

There is a reason a copy of Section 8-5-2-0, "Authority to Remove or Relocation Vehicles; Abandoned Vehicles; Inoperable Vehicles," of the City Code is inside Da'40s glove box. This guy can take all the pictures he wants, and I will just smile and wave. Fact is, I haven't received any registered letters, or found any red tags on Da'40, or had any visits from authorized City personnel. Besides, I would be nuts to leave Da'40 out in the elements with the moisture we have had.

Screw him. At least I know who the offended party is.

On another topic. The door handles look like they are in good shape. Problem is, the PO rattle can painted them. Anybody know of a shop that can buff them out? Kaehr doesn't do that.

I'd like to get one; PM sent.

Done, more or less. The column hangs down further than I would like, but at least it's solid to the dash. I'm good for now, but I will probably pull it back out and make some adjustments with the grinder.

Cool. Looks good ... real good.

Here's an update for you.... Shiney and powder-coatey. I should easily finish it all up when I get home from this next trip.

Dan

I should have snapped and given you the front bump stops too. Next batch.

Today I made a bunch of calls looking for a windshield for Da'40. I knew it was extinct from Dan, but surely thought it would be available aftermarket. NOT. Fortunately, I had heard that since the glass was flat a shop could just cut me new piece. More calls and D&B Glass said they could do it. I'll pick it up on Monday after work (it's ready, but I didn't have time to retrieve before they closed at 2:30). Windshield frame is painted and will be ready for glass after the paint cures a week or so.

Half doors are painted and ready to rock. At CM several folks had truck-lined the inside and top of their half doors. Pappy likey, so I picked up a rattle can of bed liner today at Autozone to try.

Full doors will get a final coat tomorrow along with the window frames. I pulled out the old window regulators and door glass and cleaned them up. They are rough, but will work for now.

Just don't tell the fuzz.

Pappy likey, ....

Umm, nice progress Jon. Everything looks like it is coming together. Uhh errr, Mike, how is that intervention coming along (maybe a different one to help)? Between the pressure to finish, paint fumes, and camping trips to Baja, I am a bit worried

(but we will keep that within the group );).

Mike is part of a collective conscienceness similar to the entity on the Star Trek Next Gen series called the BORG. Mike has been assimilated into the 80RG.

Between the pressure to finish ... I am a bit worried.

I just added some pressure today. While dinking around with Da'40 I decided to pull the VIN tag off the a-pillar and noticed it had a July 1969 build date. Da'40 is turning 40. Pressure is on to finish by the end of July.

Had to read that one a second time to catch the 8 in place of the B. Catch the funny, but some of you trekies(sp?) maybe need help to.

:bounce: You going to take it out for the HDC run in Oct. to Maob?
