Motivation!

Thanks Shawn for the haul. And yes, it drove up onto the trailer under its own power.

It looks like it went to the muffler shop? What all did they do for you? Exhaust system is done, I assume? I'd be interested to hear the details on that.

Yes, muffler shop. They are coming off the 3FE's two down pipes into a 2½ inch collector, then a flange so I can take the system a part, into a cat, then a Flowmaster 40. I wanted a Flowmaster 50-series, but it will not fit. Pipe, muffler, and cat are all 2½ inch.

Work is not done. Should be another couple of hours.

Is Mike doing the pipe work?

Mike's shop is, yes.

Nice job pappy. It's nice to see the 40 catch some sun; she was looking a bit pale....

Then Mike will probably do it. He bends most of the pipe. You will like the finished product.

That is all weather dependent. I work this weekend so I will have a 4-day weekend next week. I'm going to work on the many loose ends. After CM I want to take the tub to a body shop for some cleaning, minor body work, undercoating, and primer paint. I then work the 4th of July weekend and I will have a 5-day weekend to work on the tub. Mostly lining the interior, and hopefully PAINT!

I do have some smaller bit's to paint still ... windshield, doors, fenders. They have primer, but they need color. That might happen next weekend if the weather cooperates.

Very nice.

Mind if I borrow my paint gun possibly next week? I'm 99% sure I'll be ready to at least get primer back on Dad's 40 next week (that's what 7 days off in a row get you). I'll PM you.

Don't hesitate to ask if you need a hand next week. None of my junk is in a hurry, and I don't have to do a thing until Monday the 13th (once I get home this weekend). Just bodywork (which I believe I will have done Tuesday afternoon, skill permitting ;) )

That has got to be motivating! I hope to see a video of it running once you've got the whole exhaust on.

Dan

Not to be mean about it, but is it "drive-able" after exhaust? What's left for mechanical functionality? I understand that paint and "cosmetic" stuff needs to be done. You're getting there!

Looks nice Jon! I have been encouraged so much by your progress - I am going to spend part of this windy weekend in the garage working on my basket case(s). Maybe some day I will be far enough along to get exhaust work done.

Mike didn't bend the pipe. It is considerably quieter than I thought it would be. Sounds good.

What is the official redline on a 2F? I, um, took the engine up to around 4000rpm (unloaded), and it was baby-bottom smooth.

The biggest issue I noticed with the truck, moving it off and on the trailer, is the parking brake doesn't seem to be holding. The cable pulls tight, but the truck easily moves. The service brakes, on the other hand, work great.

Not mean at all. There are many reasons why it's not road worthy, yet.

  • Right now there are only 4 body mounts on it. It takes 10. I really don't want to install all of them until it's ready for assembly.
  • The steering wheel needs to be firmly attached to the firewall and to the dash. I made the firewall mount awhile ago. The dash mount is becoming more problematic.
  • I need to tidy up the wires under the dash where the harness runs over the steering column. It will be easier with the column out.
  • The rear shackle mounts need to be finish welded to the frame. As of last night they were barely held to the frame with a small bolt to keep them from moving. I partially welded them for safety reasons, but I need to drop the shackle to finish attaching them.
  • The spring mounts on the axles need to be finish welded. Right now they are welded only on one side.
  • The seat frame sits too high and needs to be lowered an inch or so.

I'm hoping to knock out most of these next weekend.

The redline in my '87 is 4,000.

For some reason I want to just sit in the garage with the engine running. Should that be normal?

With the garage door up, of course.

Thanks Mike. I really appreciate your encouragement.

P.S. Are you sitting by the tailpipe when you have that thing running? Cuz that would mean you may be a
timebomb.gif
and you need to seek help. Of course you always have HDC members there for you to help you

I'm guessing we won't see the beast on the trail for CM09? CM 2010 for sure...
