Hey all! I’ve been slammed with orders recently so thanks for that. The downside is that I got run out of stock on a bunch of stuff. I have standing orders for the stuff I need, but my sales have suddenly outpaced that. Combine that with the kids getting back to school and two of my suppliers messing up constituent pieces that go into the parts I sell and … I’m behind.

Right now it’s looking like FLRKs are 7-10 days out from shipping. The Deluxe panels are 10-12 days out for most variants (how you screw up CNC cutting from a CAD file is beyond me). Koito headlights kits are currently out but arriving today or tomorrow. HBIMs, seat bumpers, EGR ferrules, and LED flasher modules are all ready to go, along with most variants of the ABS panels.

In other news here’s a custom waxed canvas spare tire cover I made per an order from @DrRock. This is a loose test fit on my truck, which has tires about 1.25” smaller than his. Can’t wait to see what it looks like on his truck!

You screw up the CNC by loading the wrong program and running an entire batch of material with the wrong program the morning after a gnarly show that you got too drunk at. Then you’re two days behind. Ask me how I know.

Or you find that your tooling was broken for half a run or the home position was off by a few thou and everything is off center. It happens.

What I don’t get is that aside from the perimeter cut for the outline of the panels there are some grooves machined in the surface. They switched the depth on two of the grooves. The only thing I can think of is that they opened my file and edited it. Why were they opening the file? These are the same files that they’ve used on multiple runs over time, they didn’t need messes with.

Someone setup that tool incorrectly.

The other day we had a guy run 65 rosette channels in spruce tops about 40 thou deeper than spec. I caught it in time and was able to salvage them, but it could have set us back days otherwise. It was as simple as dust in the tool not allowing the but to seat completely. User error. Nothing with the program.

An other thought, and more likely scenario: The shop you’re using likely opened your file and grouped together different objects to assign a tool path for those cuts. If the computer just tries to cut the outline first then it will likely affect the other critical mounting holes if the work piece shifts.

They likely have it set up with 3-4 different tool paths. One for the mounting holes, one with a different bit and depth stop for the decorative lines (that you say were messed up) and then the final outline. It reasons to believe that while selecting the grouped objects there was an adjustment to the depth by mistake.

I used to do this kind of stuff daily when operating lasers for cutting jigsaw puzzles. Group a selection of objects and send the job but forget to adjust the cut speed and depth for that specific operation. Run the whole lot only to find your error at the end of the day.

On guitar necks, we have problems cutting curly maple and must split the cut path into several smaller cuts to avoid tear out. But it’s not on every neck. Just ones we know will be problematic. That opens the door to a whole host of other user error problems.

Stopped by the fab shop today. I luckily have one “perfect” tailgate panel that will go to fulfilling an existing order. I cannot sell anything that isn’t perfect at face value. The rest were affected by an aesthetic mis-cut that does not affect functionality. I’m willing to sell those at a great discount - please message me if you’re interested. This is also posted on Instagram and it’s first-come, first -served.

These are the brown panels, no logos.

Ever since getting a Saginaw cap adapter from @BigRiggs a while back, I really wanted to offer those on the web store. This lets you put the original “Toyoda” cap on the Saginaw cap for a bit of OEM bling in the engine bay. Cool little problem solvers are something I like so it fits right in my mix. We worked a deal and I’m going to take over production & sales on these.

Initially I was working with his 3D print, but ultimately decided to use my molding & casting process to start from scratch for an exact fit. Pushed through that process this weekend and have it nailed down with one exception: the Toyoda cap is clocked wrong so it doesn’t face the front of the truck when the cap assembly is tight. D’oh! As you can see in the photos below, the raised “T” part of the Toyoda cap is indented on the inside. The adapter piece is matched to that for a good fit and to apply a little sideways pressure when twisting the cap. I just need to get that part lined up with the part of the Sag cap that’s facing forward when it’s tight. A couple match marks with a sharpie will solve that.

This afternoon I’m going to redo the mold and clock the caps together the correct way. Easy work now now that I have the process dialed in.

A couple of notes:
1. Removing the top portion of the original Toyoda cap assembly is kind of a pain. I have some photos somewhere and will include a write up in the instruction sheet that gets sent with the adapter. I found a method with a dremel that makes it a little easier.
2. I have the part number for the Saginaw cap somewhere and will get that information on the website as well as in the instructions. I don’t know if there are multiple types of Saginaw caps that work for these pumps, but I don’t want folks buying one that doesn’t work with the adapter.
3. @orangefj45 has a great kit for converting your 60 Series to the Saginaw pump, including the hoses (with heat shields!), bracket adapter, the exact Sag pump part number, and instructions. The original pump bracket needs a small amount of clearancing - I have photos in my build thread for Matilda.
4. I’m a very OEM-oriented guy, but I went Saginaw a few years ago and have never looked back. It just works. No leak out of the front bushing like the Toyota pump, and if I ever need to replace it, I can get it from an auto parts store for cheap.

And we're live! Got things dialed in this afternoon. New mold clocked properly, urethane resin mixture dialed in, getting a nice tight and smooth finished piece that's curing really well. For what it's worth I've been running an earlier prototype with the same material on my truck for a little bit now. The new and final iterations this weekend were really about dialing in the fit & finish.

Come on down to Cruiser Trash Parts for your little Toyoda/Saginaw cap adapters!

I will pump these out as fast as I can this week. So far I have a small pile of half a dozen and will keep filling that mold with all my spare time. Luckily the cure time is fast with this resin. So if there's a slight delay on these in the next 7-10 days, bear with me please. That's how it goes when I first release a product. Even when I try to stock way up, I still get knocked down. Happens every time.

Big thanks to @BigRiggs Brendan for the work he put into this years ago and for being willing for me to carry it on. Thanks for passing the torch!

More Deluxe panels in stock, picked up a small batch from CNC cutting yesterday. Couple of small changes: no logo, and the decorative lines are brown rather than white. Both the earlier ones and the new ones look great, but I’ll be transitioning to the new ones. I still have a few of the earlier ones left.

I still have two b-stock Deluxe tailgate panels in brown left. This was from an earlier run that got scratched up during manufacturing. Functionality and fitment is 100%, aesthetics are about 85%. The scratches are hard to see unless the lighting is just right, but they’re there. Those are discounted 35% on the web shop.

I’m pretty well stocked up on most everything else too. Waiting for hardware on the FLRKs, but that shipment should arrive early next week. Saginaw cap adapters, EGR ferrules, HBIMs, seat bumpers, and LED flasher modules are ready to go, along with ABS panels for [I think] every variant, as well as most variants of the Deluxe panels. Get it!

Thanks Ian! I really like the first pair with the white lines that's in my truck, but I'm digging the brown lines too.

I am not digging the fact that the CNC shop dinged up some of the panels during handling. But hey, if it saves somebody a few bucks and goes to a good home, that's a win-win.

I’ll get the metal version in a few weeks, do some trial and error, revise the design, get another metal version, and then … maybe it will be ready for release and I can order a bunch and have them powder coated. Details later.

Would I be on the right track to guess a skid plate?

Way off 😉 😂

But do these trucks need another skid plate beyond the two bolt-on ones they came with and the welded oil pan skid? Because I’ll make one, Spook. I swear to god I will!

Honestly I would love to see a plate done up specifically for installation of long range fuel tanks. I suspect they'll get more common in the coming years, and I still hope to get my hands on one sooner rather than later (though my OEM fuel tank is still in perfect condition so there's no NEED for me to convert at this point).

A real skidplate for the engine oil pan would be awesome since the additional layer on the oil pan seems rather thin. Would be great if it covered the clutch cover too. I'm sure the front axle would hit anything before the oil pan and clutch cover would, but still nice peace-of-mind type piece to have, especially if not lifted.
