Don't jinx it, Bob...
Contemplating installing my Longfield front ChroMo 30 spline axles and birfs tomorrow that just came in on Wednesday....I have just a tiny bit of play in my front drive hub flanges, but not that bad for 170k miles. I may just take them along for field spares just in case as I really don't plan on beating mine up too much, but I always want to take care of what I think is the weak link. I also have some OEM u-joints coming in that I may bring along...again, I probably worry too much!

My hopeful install if it comes is the BellFab interior spare tire carrier...we'll see, a shipping label was made on the 4th, but still not updated for an ETA to me from UPS. Not the end of the world, I'll just keep the spare on the rear bumper if needed.

I'm heading to the beach on Sunday morning, so tomorrow is my last day of truck prep, coming home on Wednesday mid-day to pack the cooler and grab my pre-loaded tool & spares kits and driving up on Thursday morning to get as much trail time as possible! I'll be living in the hotel room, so no camping or cooking packing for me, just some lunch goodies for the days.

Oh yeah, I need to program my radio too for the proper channels, going to figure that out tonight as well.
Try this video. It helped me. The GCLC page for the event now has their freqs. I only added the four channels for Blue. If my repairs hold up, I’ll consider Blacks at some point. I’m bringing my go to instructions for solid axle rebuilds if anyone wants a copy. Saves from handling the FSM with greasy hands. It’s for my 40, but works fine on any SFA.

Good pdf on manual programming.

Have fun.

This is getting me psyched up! I have some travel but I am hoping to install my new sliders on Monday. Will be tight.
I haven't begun packing (that'll be Monday/Wednesday) but will bring my big arse tent since rain is in the forecast. I need to figure out dinner food and cooking plan. Stupid simple -- like burgers - since all of my "home cooking" involves ve to g plastic film before microwaving. If all else fails I guess there is the camp diner.

Just buy a proper GMRS radio and fuggedabout programming.

Still planning getting there Wednesday evening.

Or simply.... Find Finn's campsite 😂
Maybe you'll make it for a bite this time!

Thanks for the links...for the GCLC frequency charts, what is the extra number in the frequency code for? I'm totally new to these and had the luxury of @prharper program mine at the last event for the CLCC codes.

Example:
Channel 7 is: 462.7125
Channel 15 is: 462.5500

Some have the 7th digit as 0 and some are 5? I only see 6 digits on my radio display...

Again, total Noob to these so thanks for the input!

been looking at his 4R version, he makes some nice stuff
Yeah, saw it in person in @TRDdrew 's 80 and was impressed. As of now, shipping confirmation is for Thursday...Doh! Hoping it will update to Wednesday and I'll have it in for the event!

The zero as the fourth digit after the decimal means the channel is to be set at wideband. Don’t need to add it in the programming. The other fourth digit gets added and it shows up as a tiny figure off to the right. Those simplex channels get set as narrowband.

This info is from Ed’s helpful responses to me on manual programming. If like me you’ve set up CLCC channels, be sure to remove all shift and PL/DPL tone codes for AOAC/GCLC simplex freqs.

There’s a CHIRP file somewhere, probably the 2022 CRR thread here and/or in the ONSC clubhouse, that will install the CLCC channels and the standard FRS/GMRS channels on a baofeng- type radio. They’re named CLCC Ch1, CLCC Ch2, etc; GMRS Ch1, GMRS Ch2, etc to make them easy to find and differentiate from each other. Having both sets prevents needing to alter any of the codes depending on who you need to talk to. An out of the box GMRS and a CLCC radio will not communicate with each other without altering the out of the box radio, hence both sets of channels in one file. I’ll look for it later tonight to post here if this heat and yard work don’t fry my memory today.

What I just wrote applies to radios that can be programmed via CHIRP. Blister pack radios require making the change manually to go both ways with the CLCC radios.

I think Midland radios might have another small modification to make IIRC. @emorth might remember.

IDK about SPAM tacos (or worse, Scrapple tacos), but I couldn't come by without offering to bring something. What would help? Food? Beverages?

I took the CLCC file and modified slightly for the GMRS bands. For those using this at Coal Mine.

GMRS 1 channel is 101 on the Baofeng
GMRS 2 channel is 102 on the Baofeng
.....
GMRS 22 channel is 122 on Baofeng

Basically add 100 to the GMRS/FRS channel 1-22.

This way you should not need to reprogram again for Fall Crawl.

File attached.

youll have to see if you can figure out my Midland radio it would be really nice to talk your ear off on the trail!

Well I am not planning a Big Dinner meal like I normally do at Fall Crawl or Relic Run but there is always extra food made for a few to get a taste LOL. I am a beer mooch so I will gladly take any beers offered.... It is nice to have a few cold ones especially while enjoying a good cigar!

What I am planning as of now is pretty basic because it being my first time at the Coal Miner and AOAA and not knowing the area and also the event having an early start time in the morning I feel that there will not be a lot of time to have a nice relaxed breakfast.

Normally at Fall Crawl or Relic we are not in a rush to get out to the trails AND we are right at the trails as well and here it looks like we have a bit of a drive to get to AOAA.

So as of this moment this is my planned menu....

Thursday -
Lunch: on the road
Dinner: Bison beef Tacos w/ onions, Red Bell pepper and Pineapple mixed in. Of course shredded cheese and sour cream. Either Hard or soft shell I haven't decided yet. There will be extra for those that might want a taco.

Friday -
Breakfast: Sausage & cheese sandwiches
Lunch: Home made Chicken Salad Sandwich
Dinner: Burgers w/ the normal cheese and buns and all. There will be extras because everything is sold in either 4s, 6s or 8s LOL!!

Saturday -
Breakfast: Sausage & cheese sandwiches ( again )
Lunch: Chicken salad ( again )
Dinner: Event providing the BBQ

Sunday -
Breakfast: leftovers
Lunch: on the road

I'm not planning much in the way of food but I think I will make some Mexican street corn over the fire Thursday or Friday night. I'll bring half a dozen or so ears so there will be plenty to go around.
great that would go perfect with tacos!!

Went ahead and got my new axles installed last Saturday...long hot day and then packed up to head to the beach Saturday night. I went with the Longfield ChroMo 30 spline set...nice and beefy! Turns out that the drive hub flanges were not as loose as I was expecting and the cv's were in decent shape with good grease still in them. That said, I also pulled the wheel bearings and replaced those....they were very dry and both on the insides of the hubs sounded like tambourines due to lack of grease when they came out. All in all, a good call to do that service just to freshen up the bearings!

Heading home from the beach tomorrow to host a birthday party crab feast from my mother-in-law and then do a final pack up and will be up to AOAA for Thursday morning trails. Sounds like most of you will be up on Thursday night, so hope to see you then!

Full axle service maintenance interval is 60k miles, bearing service 20k miles. Good to get in there and restart those timers on a new to you truck.

Any reason why CLCC hasn't gotten on the GMRS bus?
And by the way / not that anyone seems to care, but those Baofeng radios lost their FCC type acceptance, so technically should not be used. Again, for those who care.
