Jon

Can you stop ruining those awesome pictures of Utah and the Baja with you in the middle of them? I know you need to prove you were there but we don't need to see them or be jealous of how completely satisfied with life you look sitting on a deserted beach with beer in hand.

Ok, will do.

Did I mention at the last meeting that I leave for Baja in, um, let's see, just over three weeks. No? Umm. Did I tell you about the lobster dinner I'm going to have on my birthday will sitting on the patio at the B&B which over looks a sealion cove? No? Ummm. Did I tell you how wonderful those beaches are, especially at sunset with a Pacifico in one hand? No?

Sincerely,
Jon M. Bushrat with da' Baja fever. :grinpimp:

Jon, ignore Mark. Tho we may be jealous, it is inspiring. I always enjoy your pics.

STOP IT!

How's the fishing by the way?

There's no reason why you couldn't be sitting on the beach in your chair with a Pacifico in one hand and the butt of a surf-casting rod stuck in a tube in the sand, waiting for your dinner to take your bait. There doesn't appear to be much fishing pressure by the lack of anyone else in your pictures.

STOP IT!
How's the fishing by the way?

Look here:

The only problem is ... Baja is three weeks away and the time between now and then will take forever, while the time there will go too fast. Juan is taking me out on the boat one day fishing. Fishing from shore depends. I've had great fishing and lousy fishing. But, it doesn't matter :grinpimp:.

Now I need to stop or I'm going to go crazy.

Getting this thread back on the Cruise Moab topic....

This is a recent post from a new e-mail group on Yahoo for Land Cruiser owners with an interest in Amateur Radio on the trail.

RE: Cruiser Owners Amateur Radio Group Cruise Moab

About 8-10 of us from Rising Sun will all be there, all with at least 2m,
some more. We've also got a 2m "base station" that will be manned during
the day (and evening), from our trailer in camp. With the local repeater,
and a common simplex frequency, the goal is to be in constant communication
with the majority of the trail runs, at all times. why? Mainly just to see
if we can do it, and because we can, and also because it should be a lot of
fun. And yes the obvious safety/emergency situation benefit (even though
we've also rented sat phones for that purpose).

Plus we're hoping to promote amateur radio in general, enticing more Cruiser
folks getting their licenses, once they see how easy to operate and more
effective Ham is compared to their CB. Wasn't that one of the 5 golden
rules, or principles, or something like that?

Last year we estimated 20 or so vehicles had Ham (you Norcal guys are a good
part of that!), this year we estimate closer to 40-50. That's out of 200
registered trucks. We'll get a good count though during tech inspection and
see what the actual numbers are, I'll post that up once I know (yeah CM has
wireless too). But I can't wait, this should be a real kick. -tim

As for the licensing, George Scolaro posted that his 7yo, his 9yo, and his wife all passed the Technician test last weekend. The 7yo scored 100%.

Wow, must give a Man a real sense of Accomplishment to get his license. Where do I sign up?

Steve,
Disregard the last sentence in post #67. We don't want to put any pressure on you. :D

After spending the last week in Death Valley with the NorCal group, I have a new found respect for the HAM radios! These radios put the CBs to shame in a bad way! We were talking up to 50 miles between radios. Even the 5watt hand held units were hitting great distances with the external roof antenna.

Cheers,

Ali

Unofficially, I am assigned to Elephant Hill, Poison Spider Mesa, and Gold Bar Rim. I emailed Tim Nakari with Rising Sun... he told me that the official trail assignments should be going out VERY soon.

I also sent Tim a note. he told me "unofficially" - Elephant Hill, Cliffhanger, and Gold Bar Rim. The Saturday choice of Gold Bar was interesting, because that wasn't even one of my choices for that day or any day. I guess we'll see when the official list comes out.

Tim also mentioned in his note that he was told at a Cruise Moab meeting that the official trail assignments would be e-mailed out the weekend of March 17 - 18. They're not quite there yet, I guess.

I spoke with Tim yesterday on another matter and in the course of that conversation he mention that due to circumstances beyond his control they are behind in notifications. The assignments are completed, they just need to fire them off.

I get Moab Diner, Eddie McStiffs and The Stunt Man Museum.........:)

But Jon's hottie was at the Golden Spike/Ramada Inn. Ya think he can handle it without a trail leader?

-Mike-

Depends on the spotter.

Jon,
So if Dan is leading and you are spotting, does this mean I get to drive? (This could be interesting.)

As long as I can focus on spotting, I'm good. :grinpimp: So what mornings do we have at the Golden Spike? Or should I ask, how many breakfasts do we get?

I'm going to pre-run the curb at Mcdonalds on Wednesday. Anyone else?
